If you’ve been wanting to learn a new calligraphy style, the Beth is an excellent choice. It’s got style and class, but it’s still a little bit playful. What more could you ask for in a modern script? If you want to skip the explanation and go straight to the calligraphy worksheet, click here. I created the Beth for — you guessed it! — my client Beth in North Carolina. I was charmed with Beth from the first moment I heard her musical southern accent. Beth is the epitome of the southern lady; she’s got manners that would give Emily Post a run for her money, and at the same time she’s smart and strong-willed. The event she was organizing {in concert with Melanie Hobert} in honor of her son’s wedding needed to reflect all that, starting with the calligraphy style.

Beth style is a cross between Amy Style and Flourish Formal Style. I use a straight holder and a Brause Blue Pumpkin nib to create it.

Like the Flourish Formal and Amy styles, Beth Style does require making guidelines. If you don’t, you’ll invariably start to let your letters creep upwards or downwards as you go along. To this end, I recommend using a light box {DIY or purchased}; or, if you have small project, you can always draw pencil guidelines.

After creating Beth’s suite, I fell in love with this calligraphy style and have been using it on both personal snail mail and wedding place cards.

If you’re not a big fan of drawing guidelines {like me}, you might consider undertaking the Kaitlin style.

I spent all of last week developing a new premium calligraphy worksheet set that I know you all will love. It has a new feature that the Flourish Formal Premium set didn’t have, which is Word Practice. I realized it might be a little easier to learn if you had a sample of how letters interact with each other in the form of words!

Learn Calligraphy for a Latté | The Postman's Knock

I call it “Learn Calligraphy for a Latté” because my premium worksheet sets are $5.00 — the usual cost of a latté {at least here in Boulder!}. For the cost of a latté, you can master an entire calligraphy style, and develop your own styles from what you learn. If you’re wondering how I made the watercolor script on the illustration, check out my watercolor calligraphy post.

Whether you’ll be creating the Beth or chilling with the Kaitlin, I wish you a wonderful and calligraphy-filled week! I’ll have a fun blog post for you in a couple of days over using vintage magazines, custom stamps, and embossing to make an incredible DIY stationery set — stay tuned!

Thanks again, a million times over, for reading the TPK blog. I am so thankful for all of you, and am reminded of your boundless creativity in your comments and emails! Keep on being amazing.

    XO,
