Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

  • Video 4: Writing Words With the Oblique Calligraphy Pen (17:14)

Lesson 5 (Optional): Creating Copperplate Calligraphy

Note that this lesson includes a 10-page printable workbook that is separate from the course workbook. If you choose to complete this lesson, you will need a printer.

  • Video 1: Writing Uppercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (19:08)
  • Video 2: Writing Lowercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (12:08)
  • Video 3: Writing Copperplate Words (20:45)

  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). Lindsey’s was the first lesson I ever had in calligraphy and I’m so glad I found her. I saved up to buy this course and I have not regretted it since. Her teaching style pleasant manner come through in this course. The printables and extra practice pages are high quality and engaging, not boring lines and mindless stroke practice, but rather fun.
    Thanks Lindsey!

Excellent introduction to calligraphy. It is well explained in details and gives me the confidence to move along every step of the way. I was interrupted in the middle of the course due to moving from a big city to a small town outside Toronto. Gradually settle down and we like the life style in a small town. Will get back to the course to where I left off. Lindsey’s course is one of the best I have ever seen so far.

I bought this course some time ago. The Postman’s Knock is my “go to” for any calligraphy work. I learned a lot with this course and the worksheet set is priceless. I continue to reference my binder with this information. Lindsey always does a great job with everything she publishes. I am looking forward to the intermediate online course next! Thanks Lindsey for all the time and effort you devote! And a thanks to Hernán and Remy as well. 😁

Beautiful calligraphy is so pleasing to view! Lindsey created a wonderful beginner course. The guidebook is great and makes for easy printing – especially if I want to practice more. She gives plenty of encouragement and plenty of worksheets for practice. She also includes fun projects to trace and projects to follow. I’ve already enjoyed creating the medallion and sharing with family. It was so fun for me to actually make something artistic! Lindsey has taught the course enough times that she knows the challenges for the beginner and addresses them as they come up. I am grateful for Lindsey’s gentle encouragement and reassurance. Thank you!

Lindsey, I just want to thank you for creating the online beginners video course. I’ve wanted to learn calligraphy for years now and I feel it will soon be a lost art. Which is so sad. I love the course and will most likely take it again in the future to refresh my memory. Thank you so much for creating such wonderful tools and courses. I’ve learned it’s ok to do things a little differently, you provide the basics. I’m blessed to have found you. You are my go to person and I’m so grateful to have found you. Thank you so much for all you do and the inspiration you provide. You are totally amazing.
    Sincerely,
    Debbie Moehr 💕

What an amazing way to be introduced to the art of calligraphy! An art I’ve always wanted to try. I had plenty of time on my hands during the pandemic while staying at home. I started out in April with a do-it- yourself workbook and some brush markers from a mail order company. Needless to say, I didn’t get very far with that. Then, a month ago, a dear friend told me about Lindsey and The Postman Knocks, and WOW…. I was hooked immediately! Although a little intimidated about trying to use the pen and ink, I didn’t hesitate to order the calligraphy pen set and enroll in the Beginner Course. I just completed the course this morning and can’t wait to start some serious practice so I can be ready for the Intermediate Course. Lindsey’s method of teaching the video course is so relaxed, understandable and easy for anyone. I would highly recommend this class. THANK YOU LINDSEY!

I’ve always been interested in penmanship, so I was naturally drawn to calligraphy. I was delighted to find The Postman’s Knock! The lessons are extremely well done and are very thorough and the handouts are a welcome reference any time. I so appreciate the many tips, worksheets, and beautiful projects to help me develop my new calligraphy skills…they’re all so fun and I’m hoping to try many of them. Thank you for sharing your creativity and enjoyment of beautiful penmanship!
