Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

This is the best thing I have ever treated myself to. I thoroughly enjoyed this course and learned a lot. It’s a good place to start learning calligraphy. The TPK blog contains a
lot of information including links to free videos , worksheets. and drills and it is continually updated. TPK is the best calligraphy site on the web.

I finished this course with understanding the correct tools and how to use them. Lindsey is thorough in her teaching and when you order something from her it comes quickly and beautifully packaged. I am immersing myself in The Postman’s Knock.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for building a SOLID FOUNDATION for your pointed pen calligraphy and getting SERIOUSLY DISCIPLINED about practice and projects. I have a little experience with Medieval Roundhand Calligraphy, but wanted to be able to write script and also to learn to use her calligraphy drills correctly in order to train my hand for drawing. (If you look at sketching practice for drawing, they have you draw circles and lines, and I thought I might as well learn my circles and lines in letter forms and learn two skills at once, plus her drills are more interesting.) I finished the class in about two-and-a-half weeks…could have gone longer or a little shorter, but am the type who needs to step pretty quickly through formal training and get to freestyle practice, so this worked best for me. LINDSEY…wow! She is BORN TEACHER. You know how, all the way from kindergarten to college, you had those instructors with whom you just fell in love, to whose classes you looked forward, and with whom you enjoyed spending your class time, because of their excellent teaching skills as well as their engaging personalities. You have found one of them here. Her pleasant, winning ways and kind smile and her down-to-earth humility make an enjoyable topic even more attractive. You will enjoy spending time with her as you learn. You can piecemeal learning calligraphy with all the bits-and-pieces available out there, or you can sit down and work through it with a pro, and gain the confidence that comes from building that irreplaceable solid foundation with someone of solid experience.

Awesome! Very thorough and a great way to get started! I took this class a while ago, and I definitely want to replay it to refresh my brain – such good info to learn and have on hand to reference for later! I liked how there are explanations behind each step – easy to follow and detailed so we can make our best work!

A simply wonderful course. Lindsey’s method of teaching is brilliant – warm, approachable and enthusiastic with clear and detailed explanations. The camerawork is excellent, and you really feel like you are right there watching her demonstrate the strokes., and I love that you can just rewatch a section of the video whenever you want. I’m about two thirds of the way through this course now, and I’m already looking forward to being able to tackle Lindsey’s intermediate calligraphy course. I’ve also treated myself to some worksheets and have been able to make some Christmas cards for friends and family using Lindsey’s clear and detailed explanations.

In short, in you are thinking about this course, don’t hesitate – go for it!

I have a bit of a crazy schedule and the fact that I can reference the amazing videos whenever I need to, and go back to a specific place, pause, or just watch for a refresher is AWESOME. Lindsey is a real and down to earth person who makes is seem like a friend is teaching you, and I have told many others about this course and how fun it’s been to go through. Can’t wait until I’m ready for the intermediate class!

It’s an amazing course, I’ve recommended it to so many friends. Thanks to online learning, I could learn from such a great teacher. An year ago I had stated with brush pen and left it because the result was not so good. When I came across tpk,I learnt true calligraphy and my love for calligraphy became so much more. Thank you tpk.

I started on my modern calligraphy journey in the summer of 2021 through bullet journaling and using brush pens. While it was enjoyable it didn’t last long and soon I turned my eye to learning actual modern calligraphy with a pointed pen. On a whim, I purchased a beginner kit from Speedball with no real research. I found myself frustrated and feeling lost. I went online and after hours of research, I found TPK. Low and behold, I was spending time reading Lindsey’s blogs and reviews about her video courses. I decided to take the plunge and purchase worksheets, new supplies, and the Beginner’s Course to further my journey in learning modern calligraphy. In just a few months, I’ve learned more than I imagined and have improved leaps and bounds from Lindsey. Her style of teaching, tips, and techniques make it all easy to digest while making the experience of learning truly enjoyable and relaxing. My calligraphy has progressed so much better than I could’ve imagined and I have found a new hobby that fills my artistic side.

TL;DR — If you’re wanting to learn modern calligraphy, then this is the course for you. Lindsey is an incredible teacher and the number of resources she provides you on her site alone is more than I’ve found from others online. I promise you won’t regret it!

I have not completed this course and love that it has a lifetime viewing. I’ve referred to it many times and it truly is the best I’ve found. Easy to follow (I’m a lefty as well!), and covers everything you need to progress well with practice. Lots of inspiration and detail!!! I highly recommend this for a beginner or even those who just need to brush up!
