Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

Lesson 3: The Straight Pen Holder

  • Video 1: Straight Pen Overview (19:57)
  • Video 2: For the Lefties – Tips for Using the Straight Pen (5:47)
  • Video 3: Beginner Problems (7:00)
  • Video 4: Straight Calligraphy Drills (12:50)
  • Video 5: Writing Uppercase Letters (18:05)
  • Video 6: Writing Lowercase Letters (15:45)
  • Video 7: Writing Words (16:53)

Lesson 4: The Oblique Calligraphy Pen

  • Video 1: Oblique Calligraphy Pen Overview (16:58)

  • Video 3: Writing Letters With the Oblique Calligraphy Pen (24:12)
  • Video 4: Writing Words With the Oblique Calligraphy Pen (17:14)
  • Video 5: Writing Words Without Guidelines (3:56)

Lesson 5 (Optional): Creating Copperplate Calligraphy

Note that this lesson includes a 10-page printable workbook that is separate from the course workbook. If you choose to complete this lesson, you will need a printer.

  • Video 1: Writing Uppercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (19:08)
  • Video 2: Writing Lowercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (12:08)
  • Video 3: Writing Copperplate Words (20:45)

Lesson 6: Guidelines and Practice

  • Video 1: How to Draw Pencil Guidelines (4:24)
  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). Once you checkout, you will receive an email with a link to the course, or you can find the course in your account.

    Lindsey!!! 😍
I received my GORGEOUS kit last Friday! 🎉🎉🎉 You have no idea how thrilled I was to see it in person! 😍Every. Single. Detail. Is. Perfection!!! 🤩 It’s obvious that you have put much thought into EVERYTHING you do! I am truly honored to be taking your classes too! It’s a STEAL! 💸 The amount of information packed into each lesson, along with comments & linked blog posts… seriously, can’t say enough about how AMAZING you are!! 🎉💪🎉 Of course Calligraphy is a LOT more difficult than I had anticipated 😅… yet I’m enjoying the practice. Someday I hope to be as smooth as you! 😍 Thank You for ALL that you do! ❤️

Wow! I’m so glad I found you!! I have been fascinated with Calligraphy for many years… and now I realize why I would kind of practice but not get very far. Your simple instructions (including the potato and the nib) are phenomenal. I got my Nikko G nib yesterday and started… just practicing and practicing. Amazon just delivered my oblique pen a few minutes ago… going to start with that later this evening. Just committed to practice practice practice every day… make a lot of wonky-looking letters and know that it can only get better. Being prepared for the simplest things (like correct nib and the right kind of paper) makes ALL the difference. And learning how to do Faux Calligraphy… wow! You’re a wonderful teacher. Thank you!

I’m a writer and business person… I HAVE to take brakes to just rest my brain. I sew a lot… but that takes time and sewing machines and I’ve already sewn everything I want or need at this point. I wanted a way to step back from heavy mental work and just float away while creating something beautiful. This is it. Thank you!

This is a wonderful, informative video course that I would highly recommend, especially to visual learners! Before purchasing this course, I had already been lurking around The Postman’s Knock for a few years and already owned several of the worksheets in different styles. I would say that if you are able to complete the other worksheet sets sold on TPK on your own, it probably isn’t necessary to buy this course, but it is really great for answering simple questions you may have getting started. Sometimes there is no substitute for actually watching someone else write in order to understand the concepts!

I have just completed the Modern Calligraphy video course. It was a lot of fun and I learnt a great deal.
This was my first attempt in the art of calligraphy writing.
The video course was very professionally presented. The structure of the lessons made it very easy to follow. It was a perfect step by step lesson course and I loved that you could work at your own pace.

Lindsey, thank you very much for designing this beginner’s course. It was very, very informative and clearly illustrated the time and effort you invested in creating it. A job well done!
The fact that it does not expire is a huge bonus. It’s comforting to know that I can go back to refresh any, or all of the course whenever I need to. This is money well spent.
Thank you also for the many freebies and great tutorials you have so kindly made available.

I am so happy I came across your wonderful, information packed website. Thanks also to your husband for making your website so user friendly.

On a personal note I would like to thank you for all feedback, encouraging comments and generous time spent answering my many emails.

Lindsey, I am in awe of your many talents. You were born to teach. You have inspired me.

I have a long way to go, and am enjoying practicing as often as I can.
Your patience, grace and generosity to share your many talents is nothing short of AWESOME!!!!
    Thank you again.
Looking forward to other courses in the near future.

My love for the beautiful content produced by Lindsey forced me to go back to basics and purchase the “Beginners Modern Calligraphy Online Course.”
Having been enthralled with the craft for over a year now, I questioned whether or not I needed to take this course over fear that I would only be covering things that I already knew. I am happy to say that this was far from the case and that it has made me look at calligraphy in a new way now.
This course is really fantastic for anyone interested in learning about calligraphy, from the basics right up to mastering lettering, spacing and adding your own flare to different designs.
There is so much more to this course than simply copying fonts because it teaches you how to really utilise your equipment and overcome standard obstacles that arise with issues like ink or hand placement.
I believe that this course has taught me not only to write better but has given me the confidence to take risks. Even things that I hadn’t enjoyed previously like drawing Calligraphy Medallions are proving to be my favourite past-time and I have noticed that the quality of my work has improved overall.
I am really grateful to have such an excellent resource available and I look forward to future videos.

I can (and do) get lost in your site for hours, finding countless posts and blogs to delve into. I have purchased many items and am currently working through the Beginner Calligraphy Course. Lindsey, you are extremely talented–I try not to become frustrated at my rather unattractive written product! The joy is in the journey… I’ll continue practicing. Thanks, Lindsey!
