Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

Lesson 3: The Straight Pen Holder

  • Video 1: Straight Pen Overview (19:57)
  • Video 2: For the Lefties – Tips for Using the Straight Pen (5:47)
  • Video 3: Beginner Problems (7:00)
  • Video 4: Straight Calligraphy Drills (12:50)
  • Video 5: Writing Uppercase Letters (18:05)
  • Video 6: Writing Lowercase Letters (15:45)
  • Video 7: Writing Words (16:53)

Lesson 4: The Oblique Calligraphy Pen

  • Video 3: Writing Letters With the Oblique Calligraphy Pen (24:12)
  • Video 4: Writing Words With the Oblique Calligraphy Pen (17:14)
  • Video 5: Writing Words Without Guidelines (3:56)

Lesson 5 (Optional): Creating Copperplate Calligraphy

Note that this lesson includes a 10-page printable workbook that is separate from the course workbook. If you choose to complete this lesson, you will need a printer.

  • Video 1: Writing Uppercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (19:08)
  • Video 2: Writing Lowercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (12:08)
  • Video 3: Writing Copperplate Words (20:45)

Lesson 6: Guidelines and Practice

  • Video 1: How to Draw Pencil Guidelines (4:24)
  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). Once you checkout, you will receive an email with a link to the course, or you can find the course in your account.

I thoroughly loved taking this online course. The guidance was excellent, along with the descriptions of equipment needed. There is the added bonus of the comments section where most questions you may have have already been asked and answered, but if not, within 24 hours of posting, Lindsay will answer.

I have enjoyed learning calligraphy this way so much that I am starting my own wedding calligraphy business, and I believe that the skills taught here are invaluable for this venture.

This course for the novice, like myself, is fantastic. I stumbled across TPK and Lindsey’s work whilst researching for to do calligraphy and I am so pleased I did. After much deliberation I paid for the course and I am so very pleased I did. It was more to do with being afraid to start I think but like all things the more you practice, the better you get.
The videos are very clear and informative and I really like doing each chapter along with each video, it is like having a teacher in the room with you! Lindsey puts you at ease and you find yourself really enjoying learning calligraphy.
I can not recommend this course enough and when I am ready I shall be purchasing the next one to continue my development.

Excellent course, very easy to get started with.

Unlike most other courses, which require you to follow old style calligraphy and are very strict, Lindsey’s course is very free flowing and fun. I was writing farily good stuff in just a week, though obviously if you want to master it it will take months. But you don’t need to wait months to see good results.

If you are wondering if you should take it, dont think about it, just do it. You won’t regret it 🙂

Although I took a few classes of Lindsey already before and had a little experience with modern calligraphy this class was worth every penny. It’s was very good to have all infos in one place and I learned a lot. I’m happy I took the class and now I’m so motivated to start again. Thank you Lindsey!

This is a great course! I’ve been taking my time getting through it so that I’ll have time to practice and feel comfortable before moving to the next lesson. Lindsey is a great communicator and has some wonderful hints. Her teaching style is very comfortable and easy to understand. I’m a huge fan of Lindsey Bugbee!

I just finished the Online Beginner’s Calligraphy course and loved it. I learned so much and the directions were clear, friendly and most helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the learning process.

I have taken your online course. I believe what sets your course apart from any other I have experienced is your attention to detail. You focus on the learner and share tips on how to overcome obstacles that a new learner may encounter. Hold the pen this way, if this is happening then do this, this causes this… So many tips for success!! Many of the other courses I’ve tried just focus on the lettering and a big set of worksheets. There is a big difference between just selling a product and sharing a process! Your communication during the course makes all the difference for the learners growth and development!! I felt that I truly experienced “teaching” like I could have in a live workshop and that you cared about conveying your craft so that I could be successful, too. Thank you!

This course really got me started with calligraphy, and helped build my still and confidence. Excellent presentation and the worksheets were great. I highly recommend this course.

I bought this course a while back and didn’t use it for a long time. I took a few in-person calligraphy workshops in the meantime but still felt really shaky and unconfident. I decided to use this course and I’m so happy I completed it. It is informative, simple to follow, and covers all the basics you need to really begin your calligraphy journey. I finished this course feeling so much more confident. After completing this course, I moved on to the Amy style and Janet style worksheets. I use so many of the techniques taught in Lindsey’s courses for my current calligraphy projects.

If you are wondering if this is worth the money, it is. Every last dime!
