Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

I started this course at the beginning of the pandemic to try to make good use of my downtime. Besides the fact that Lindsey is very skilled and also a good teacher, she is also very calming and the class is very low stress. I had learned calligraphy many years ago, but when taking this course, I learned how much I did not know. So much of the information regarding supplies is so helpful. Lindsey is also available to answer questions via email and this was invaluable. It really was a game changer when I had some trouble early on. You will really love this class!

Lindsey, I think I’ve taken almost all of your courses, but this was my first and it was a God-send! I’m a lefty and I’d been struggling with calligraphy, and was so desperate to get good results. Your class made all the difference. Learning what materials to use and what causes the little blips took the “failure” out of my experience and has turned calligraphy into something I truly enjoy and can feel proud of. Thanks for that! I’m in the middle of the Intermediate class now and loving that just as much!

Lindsey is a fantastic instructor. She is detailed and her drills and examples are so easy to follow. I’ve been a huge fan of her work for a few years now, and she never disappoints. I keep coming back to her blog for reference and inspiration because she is one of the very best! And, every chance I get, I recommend her site to anyone who will listen.

I had been interested in dip pen calligraphy and tried to learn from books but found them uninspiring. Then I came across this course and it was fantastic! The supporting materials are great, there are a couple alphabets taught and plenty of practice. The videos are a great length and provide very clear instruction to get you going on the exercises. Lindsey is very encouraging and makes it clear that practice is necessary to get the hang of it and that everyone will have a bit of a different style and that’s just fine. The pace of the course is great and it was easy to track my progress. I felt motivated to continue to work my way through the course and looked forward to each lesson. I am very glad I took this course and after continuing to practice, I’m excited to take the intermediate course.

Excellent course as all of the Postman’s Knock courses are. Lindsey always goes above and beyond.

When I first signed up for this course, I just wanted to learn a little calligraphy. How was I to know that I would fall down the most delightful rabbit hole of creativity and all round fun and relaxation. First, I loved the videos, so well thought out, plus I can view them as many times as I need. Second, it really starts at the beginning, what to buy, how to store it, where to buy supplies, and of course, how to , not only calligraphy, but watercolor, letters, envelopes and many lovely projects. This course is the best thing I have treated myself too, in a while, and I highly recommend it, and all related worksheets, drills and fun projects available on the blog. I would also like to add, the personal attention and help when need, is an added value that is a great plus.

Lindsey’s course is the only calligraphy practice I’ve found online that I constantly return to, because the lessons are so clear and the practices are fun to do while informative. The Postman’s Knock is the hub that progressed my calligraphy abilities the most – I’ve been dabbling in fine handwriting since I was a kid! I’m so thankful that this site / educational service is around, especially during lockdown. Happy to support The Postman’s Knock now and in the future!

Lindsey is an excellent teacher. She does an excellent job of clearly stepping through the basics of calligraphy. Because of this course, I no longer find the art overwhelming or daunting. Now it is fun and relaxing. Small details like cleaning the nib, after picking out the right one for me, and the right paper and ink make a huge difference! Now my friends really enjoy getting something pretty and fun in the mail. 🙂

The Postman’s Knock beginner calligraphy course that got me started in my first baby steps with calligraphy. It is a great starting point and Lindsey continually provides other great information on all types of calligraphy matter and supplies to keep you learning.
