Description
If you’re looking for a creative challenge that helps you level up your flourishing skills—and leaves you with something you’re proud to hang onto—this is a great project to try! This worksheet walks you through how to create an intricate parrot using pointed pen flourishes. It’s an intermediate to advanced project that will help you practice control, spacing, and stroke contrast; plus, it’s just a lot of (relaxing!) fun to make.
What’s Included:
- A 6-page printable worksheet (PDF)
- Color-coded, step-by-step instructions
- Warm-up strokes to get comfortable with the movements
- A traceable outline to help you make the parrot on a separate, frame-worthy piece of paper
What You’ll Practice:
You’ll work on filling a simple outline with dense, flowing flourishes. As you go, you’ll get more comfortable with making clean upstrokes and downstrokes, rotating your paper to help with fluid movement, and using crosshatching to add depth.
Supplies You’ll Need:
- A pointed pen holder, nib, and ink (I used a Brause EF66 nib in an oblique pen and sumi ink)
- Alternatively, you can use a small brush pen such as the hard-tipped Tombow Fudenosuke
Printing Tip:
For best results, print the worksheet on smooth, high-quality paper like 32# HP Premium LaserJet (affiliate link). This paper tends to play well with sumi ink and doesn’t cause ink to feather.
