The Tachikawa T40 straight pen is a lightweight Japanese pen made out of wood and a comfortable rubber grip.
This pen's plastic insert can accommodate a variety of different nib sizes -- including several crowquill nibs! Note that this holder does *not* accommodate the Brause Rose nib.
One of my favorite things about this pen? It comes with a cap, making it both travel-friendly and convenient.
This pen is *super* comfortable to write with. I love using it for both calligraphy and drawings!

The Tachikawa T40 straight pen is one of my very favorite writing utensils. It’s comfortable, pretty, and convenient! Here are some features that make it fabulous:

  • The pen has a comfortable rubber grip that ensures hours of comfortable calligraphy or illustration work.
  • The T40 includes a fitted plastic cap that will protect the nib (I love the cap for traveling).
  • The pen’s plastic insert will fit most nibs. There’s one nib I’ve found that doesn’t fit in the pen, and that’s the Brause Rose.
  • This pen is beautiful! The color combination of the light wood, robin’s egg blue grip, and gold embossing is so lovely.

    I started with this pen and really liked all the features everyone appreciates about it. Unfortunately in the last few months, my nibs started falling out – right into my ink pot. 😯 I am currently only using it with a crowquill nib. Is there anything that I can do about this issue? I have several pens but really like this for home and especially when traveling.

    I’m just a beginner, and I was looking for a pen – I, too, really appreciate the protective top for the nib. As promised, this pen fits nicely in my hand, is easy on the grip, and doesn’t tire out my hand in using it. I like it very much.
