Selling artwork and calligraphy is simultaneously one of the most satisfying and frightening things you will ever do, which is why I think it’s a subject that is worthy of examination. I realized this should be a topic of discussion when I received an email from a designer who had just added calligraphy to her line of services. In her email, she expressed trepidation at this step. She essentially asked: “How do I know if it’s good enough to sell? I am scared people will look down at me because I don’t have a long history as a professional calligrapher.”

Watercolor + Calligraphy Desktop Wallpaper
A few months ago, I was fortunate enough to stumble across Posta Via Gufo, the calligraphy-centric blog of a gifted artist named Gioia. I really enjoy Gioia’s blog and work, and I reached out to her hoping she would be willing to share something on the TPK blog. Much to my delight, she agreed! The result of her generosity is this amazing desktop wallpaper, which she created using watercolor and her original calligraphy. You can use this background on your phone, computer, or even just print it out and hang it on the wall.

Artisan-Made Calligraphy Pen Holders
In the past, I have written using three calligraphy pen holders: a black plastic Speedball straight holder, a black plastic Speedball oblique holder, and a wooden/cork General’s straight holder. My favorite of the three was the General’s straight holder because it has a better feel than the plastics; but at times it gets a bit bulky.

Interview with {Uncial Script Master!} Albrecht Clauss
A couple of weeks ago, I received this gorgeous envelope in the mail, which I told you about in this blog post. It came all the way from TPK blog reader Albrecht in Bremen, Germany, who clearly has a talent for lettering.
As you know, my calligraphy style is more flowy/curly … rarely do I create non-cursive lettering like uncial script. That’s part of the reason I am so impressed with the style Albrecht used — his skill and knowledge of typography is evident. Of course, I had to grill him with questions — and I thought you might be interested in his answers, too! So, I conducted a little interview with Albrecht, and I hope you’ll be as inspired by it as I am.

A Belated About Me
I’ve been writing this blog for over a year now, and in the midst of a website remodel (it hasn’t happened yet, but I’ll guide you through the new user interface when it does), I realized that I haven’t actually introduced myself to you! Our new site will feature a page that should tell you all this and more, but I wanted to pre-introduce myself now … since, you know, you’ve been reading my blog and you’re not quite sure who I am.
So — hi! I’m Lindsey. I’m at 25-year-old designer who lives in Boulder, Colorado, USA. As you know from my blog, I love DIY and giving gifts; and I really like writing. I have a degree in English and a minor in French from KU {The University of Kansas}. While at KU, I had an internship at Ogden Publications in Topeka. Ever heard of Mother Earth News? Well, that’s where I interned. It was there that I learned all the good stuff there is to know about blogging, like working with a CMS {Content Management System — WordPress is my CMS of choice} and, of course, SEO {Search Engine Optimization — basically, making sure Google shows your site to people}.
