If I had to pick a go-to favorite lettering style, it would be the George. George Style lettering is super versatile, easy to create, and packs a serious visual punch! As of today, the printable George Style Hand Lettering Worksheet has undergone a much-needed makeover. And: a Procreate version is now available (look at George,…
In 2016, George Style hand lettering came on the TPK scene … and I’ve used it constantly ever since. There’s just something about those stylized letters! They’re simple to create, customizable, and they pack a big visual punch. George Style letters also pair extraordinarily well with calligraphy, which is part of the reason why I return to writing them again and again!
As part of my effort to ensure that TPK offers the best quality of learning resources, I recently gave the George Style Exemplar a makeover. Now, instead of just being an exemplar, it’s a worksheet with lots of guided practice opportunities! While I was at it, I also created a Procreate version. In this blog post, I’ll show you some George Style inspiration photos, explain the worksheet revisions, and go over what this means for current George Style owners!
About This Hand Lettering Style
George Style lettering is a TPK original style that’s cool, fun, and versatile. I *love* the George, and I use this lettering style at least twice a month for various projects!
You might be wondering how I came up with the name. The truth is, after naming so many calligraphy styles after women, I thought it would be nice to come up with a lettering style and give it a masculine name! Thus, “George” came about. It’s a sturdy, reliable, and approachable name — just like this lettering style!
When I initially created George Style hand lettering two years ago, the product I released was just an exemplar. It showed you how to create the style, but it didn’t provide any practice opportunities! That changes today. Now, the George Style Hand Lettering Worksheet contains guided practice for all letters A-Z + a-z and numbers! It also features word practice so you can get some guidance writing common words and phrases.
Current George owners shouldn’t fret: I didn’t get rid of the exemplar part! The first few pages of the worksheet show you how to form all of the George Style characters at a glance. I recommend filling out the worksheet to familiarize yourself with the style, then keeping the exemplar part at hand for when you want to use George Style letters in real life!
Those who previously owned the George Style Printable Hand Lettering Worksheet (then known as the Premium Hand Lettering Exemplar: George Style) have received an automatic upgrade to the new version! If you purchased the George in the past, take a look in your account to find the new worksheet. If you don’t have an account on TPK, you can download the worksheet from your original order confirmation email!
The Procreate version of the George Style worksheet set has all the same perks as the printable version, but I tailored its layout and instructions for the iPad.
I’ve been resistant to Procreate writing, but I have to admit that motherhood has made me rethink my aversion! The iPad is (incredibly) convenient, mess-free, and practical. My thinking? You can always learn on the iPad, then use your skills “in real life” when you’ve got the time and the materials.
If you choose to practice the George on your iPad, use a Studio Pen brush at size 4% (you’ll find it under “Inking” in the brush library). Also, try filling out the worksheet in a color other than black! That way, you’ll easily be able to distinguish your letters from the worksheet letters. Finally, make sure you work within a new layer!
