Father’s Day Cards, Free Printables, Printable Goodies, Tutorials

This printable Father’s Day card checks pretty much every box you could possibly want. It’s artistic, but not feminine. It’s quick, but easily personalized with color. Most importantly, its neutral theme ensures that it’s suitable for all sorts of dads across the world!

Vintage Typography Printable Father's Day Card | The Postman's Knock

I created this printable Father’s Day card after noticing a gap in the available designs while looking for inspiration. I found that the majority of Father’s Day cards are either extremely masculine or downright goofy. There aren’t many that strike a tasteful, artistic balance, which is what I aimed to achieve with today’s printable.

Vintage Typography Printable Father's Day Card | The Postman's Knock
I made this Father’s Day card design with a Nikko G nib and sumi ink. I love the Nikko G nib for projects like this one!

The Vintage Typography Father’s Day Card should please all different kinds of dads, regardless of their ranges of interests! I’m confident that my dad, a Kansas cowboy, and my father-in-law, a Peruvian marathon runner, will both absolutely love it — despite the fact that they are two very different people! Here’s a little “tutorial” over how to make it:

    1. Print Off the Vintage Typography Father’s Day Card

You can find the Vintage Typography Printable Father’s Day Card by clicking here. Print the file off on the light-colored cardstock of your choice. If you can, an off-white or faint yellow color is a great pick! It gives the card a vintage look that complements the design.

Once you have printed the file, cut the card out along the guidelines. The resulting piece of paper should be approximately 10″ x 7″ (254 mm x 178 mm).

    2. Fold the Card in Half

Now, carefully fold the card exactly in half. You can run a bone folder along the fold to make a crisp, smooth crease.

Vintage Typography Printable Father's Day Card | The Postman's Knock
A bone folder will give your crease a smooth, professional feel. This card folds to 5″ x 7″ (127 mm x 178 mm), and will fit in any A7 envelope.

    3. Add Color (Optional)

If you like the way this printable Father’s Day card looks in black and white, please feel free to skip this step. If you’d like to add some color, however, you can do so with colored pencils, crayons, watercolors, or markers!

Vintage Typography Printable Father's Day Card | The Postman's Knock
I chose a green and golden yellow color scheme for this card. I love Prismacolor colored pencils for projects like this because the application is so smooth and easy!

    4. Send

Once you’re happy with how your Father’s Day card looks, you can tuck it into an envelope and send it! That’s really all there is to this little project — print, fold, color (if you want to), and voilà. It’s perhaps the simplest tutorial in all of TPK history, and I’m loving it!

Vintage Typography Printable Father's Day Card | The Postman's Knock
The key to making any great printable card is having a good printer! I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet 4650, which, to my surprise and delight, prints beautifully on 80# cardstock! My old Epson couldn’t handle cardstock, so I’m in heaven.

    Another Father’s Day Card Tutorial

If this printable Father’s Day card design isn’t your style or you want to spend a little more time making a card, try 2016’s Not Your Average Father’s Day Card Tutorial. It utilizes geometry and lettering to make a creative card that is also great for any dad!

Not Your Average Father's Day Card Tutorial | The Postman's Knock
The Not Your Average Father’s Day Card will take longer to make than today’s printable Father’s Day card — but it’s super cool!

No matter which card you choose to send to the special dad/s in your life, I hope that you enjoyed the printable Father’s Day card in today’s post! Again, you can find it for free by clicking here. If you choose to print it, I hope that you’ll share a photo of your card presentation (you can tag @thepostmansknock on Instagram)! It’s always fun to see TPK printables being enjoyed. 🙂 Oh, and before I let you go, don’t forget: the giveaway for the Ultimate Modern Calligraphy Starter Kit ends this Sunday, May 27th! If you haven’t entered yet, you can do so here.

Thanks a million for reading TPK, and have a fantastic weekend!

Love this idea but I struggle with creating card / mail art with print lettering vs the classic script calligraphy. How much is muscle memory vs natural artistic ability?

Hi Steph! I think that practice has a lot more to do with it than anything. 🙂 You could be the most artistic person in the world, but that probably doesn’t mean you pick up a dip pen and instantly do amazing things with it!

The other day, I was thinking about sending out ho The other day, I was thinking about sending out holiday cards, and I immediately dismissed the thought with, “I have zero time to calligraph envelopes for those.” ✍️

... But is that true? I put it to the test for the latest article on the TPK Blog. Using some time-saving tricks I’ve learned over the years (like using a watery ink, a bouncy calligraphy style, and minimal pencil guidelines), I timed myself making three envelope concepts. Two of them took 5 minutes or less. The most time-intensive took 5 minutes, 30 seconds. The envelopes still turned out looking elegant, especially with the help of some artistic postage stamp collages. 💌

After I chose this music to accompany this reel, i After I chose this music to accompany this reel, it dawned on me: drawing a calligraphy medallion is like, well, Belle’s arc with the Beast.

At first, it’s a bit of a weird situation. Strange shapes, questionable structure, possibly some growling (à la “YOU WILL JOIN ME FOR DINNER. That’s not a request!”) when the inevitable ink smudge happens. You keep thinking, “I’m not sure why I’m doing this ... should I hop on Felipe and gallop away?” 🐎

But something shifts as the medallion starts to come to life. And when you finish that last detail and pull back, the music swells. Light bursts from your paper like it did from Beast’s digits as he transformed into a stunningly beautiful prince. ✨ You’re practically in a ballroom celebrating, and, wait, did your furniture just turn into an adoring crowd that’s celebrating your fortitude and skill?

(And now you know how my mind works 🧠 ... I love a good metaphor, no matter how weak it may be!)

To learn how to make a calligraphy medallion, just search for “calligraphy medallion” on the TPK site (link in bio). You’ll find both free Blog tutorials and detailed premium worksheets.

... I’ll show myself out now. 🙈
