Many people come to TPK looking to improve their handwriting, and until today, I wasn’t really able to help them. Yes, there are beaucoup calligraphy resources here — but calligraphy is art! It’s not something that’s realistic to use for everyday tasks like writing thank you cards, notes, or recipes. That’s why I’ve spent the last few months creating Improve Your Handwriting: A Comprehensive Online Course! The course will teach you how to develop handwriting that you’re proud to show off. Here’s a short video to tell you more:
Why Does Handwriting Matter?
Ah, the proverbial question! In a world dominated by computers, do you really need to have impressive penmanship? I would argue that the answer to that is yes. Now that everything is typed, handwriting stands out even more! For example, check out these marketing materials I received the other day:
Handwriting reveals a lot about the care and creativity that you put into things. My friends know this, and I’m often asked to write out thank you cards on their behalf after job interviews! As one friend put it, “I’m too embarrassed of my handwriting to write this note myself.” She — like many people — fears being judged for her handwriting. And she’s not wrong: handwriting, for whatever reason, says a lot about someone.
Can You Change Your Handwriting?
Your handwriting is uniquely your own! So — can you change it completely? I suppose, but it wouldn’t be a true representation of you. Instead, it’s best to change your handwriting like you might change your house! Keep the structure, but tidy it up and fix the things that you don’t like.
I’ve put a lot of thought into how a person (right- or left-handed) can improve their handwriting, which I complemented with several weeks of research. Ultimately, improving your handwriting boils down to identifying the problems with your current style of writing, then addressing those problems. The point of the Improve Your Handwriting eCourse is to teach you how to self-diagnose issues, which we’ll remediate via drills, practice exemplars, and making changes like grip adjustments.
The course comes with an 18-page printable worksheet that’s full of drills and exemplars. The worksheet also comes in a Procreate-friendly format for those who prefer to practice on the iPad!
In the course, we’ll focus on a variety of factors that can have an impact on your handwriting. Environment, materials, and pen grip all impact your writing capabilities! Then, I’ll teach you how to do drills and write out exemplars that will help you improve your everyday handwriting.
At 18 pages, the worksheet included with the course is one of my shortest. That’s because the drills included in it pack a major punch! It’s my hope that you will do them over and over — and that shouldn’t be hard because you can do them anywhere. The beauty of handwriting is you barely need anything to practice it! Any pen and paper will work, or you can use your iPad and Apple Pencil!
I price all TPK video courses at $25.00. However, for this week only, the Improve Your Handwriting eCourse is $20.00! This price will expire on Tuesday, September 3rd, at 4:00 PM, at which point it will revert to the default $25.00. My hope is that you’ll enroll and try it! Play around with the course, give me feedback if you have any suggestions, and document your progress!
If you have any questions about TPK’s newest course, please comment on this blog post or contact me! I’m glad to answer. Otherwise, please enjoy the course — it has been a labor of love! I can’t wait for students to start enrolling, and I’m so eager to see your progress. Don’t forget to take before and after photos!
Thanks very much for reading, and keep an eye out for another floral illustration post by Ana this Thursday!
