This week, I've got an update about a super cool project that I'm working on for you! I've also got a Boulder workshop update, plus a request for feedback (if you've got a moment).
This week, I've got an update about a super cool project that I'm working on for you. I also have a Boulder (Colorado) workshop update, plus a request for feedback!
Illustrated Map eCourse
For years, I've received email requests for illustrated map commissions. Illustrated maps were something that I used to make for clients, but as the TPK website grew, I simply lacked the time. I did write a tutorial over how to make something like the map below, but the instructions are very simplified!
I am a big fan of watercolor maps, both as something to incorporate into a wedding invitation suite and as general art for your home. And really, they're not that difficult to make (just time-consuming)! Since I know that you can make an amazing illustrated map yourself, I'm going to show you exactly how to create one in an eCourse.
In the eCourse, we'll work together to make an illustrated map of Paris, France. As you create the Paris map with me, you'll gain all the skills that you need to make an illustrated map of any place! Keep an eye out for an announcement blog post in a couple of weeks.
Workshop Update
On Tuesday, I'm headed to The Riverside here in Boulder to check out their loft space. Usually, I teach calligraphy workshops in a gorgeous room in the back, but they just renovated the loft and have asked me to consider teaching there. So: I am going to take a look, coordinate with Jess (who usually teaches watercolor workshops the same weekend as my calligraphy workshops), and we'll decide which dates/times we'll do our Boulder workshops this summer. I'll update you next week!
In the meantime, I've got four spots available in each of my Miami, Florida, workshops. The beginner workshop is taking place on Saturday, and the intermediate is on Sunday. Three brave souls are taking both workshops. If you are a beginner who wants to make a weekend of it, I encourage you to take on that challenge, too! You can sign up for the beginner workshop here, and the intermediate workshop here.
Bookin' It
Slowly but surely, I'm working on my The Modern Calligrapher book. I try to set aside two days every week to making progress! I'm putting a big emphasis on photography and illustrations, and trying my best not to share a ton of what I've making so it's a surprise when you get the actual book.
I want to make this book the best it can be. So, if you have a moment, I'd love for you to reply to this email and tell me what complaints you have about current calligraphy books. What would you like to see appear in my book that other calligraphy books don't do a great job with?
Your feedback will help me to make something useful and beautiful that deserves a spot on the bookshelf, so thank you in advance if you have any input!
Thanks very much for reading and for your continued support! It's (pretty much) a proven fact: TPK readers are the best kind of people -- creative, kind, and curious. Have a great week, and we'll reconvene soon with a list of projects to beat the winter blues!
