About the Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course:

The self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

The calligraphy box was a wonderful present to myself. I never would have tried an oblique pen without tpk’s help! The video course pitches the level just right. I have learned alot and continue to practice. A great starter kit.

If you want to get started in calligraphy and you want to be successful, start here! Practice makes progress and this course with its two alphabets and a peek at copperplate gets you going easily with lots of good opportunities for practice. I took the course over a summer and felt confident enough to make calligraphy Christmas cards by December. The alphabets are fun to learn. All beginner questions are answered and illustrated in the videos- proper posture, how to hold the pen- straight and oblique, tips for ink flow issues, and much more. I am glad I bought the kit as all the supplies are included and the attractive packaging creates enthusiasm for starting and finishing the course. What I especially appreciated is how beginner friendly the course is. Lindsey gives you just what you need for an excellent foundation without too much that would be overwhelming to someone just starting out. Calligraphy, in all its many expressions cannot possibly be mastered in a lifetime, but it can be attractively doable in a short time with good instruction in my opinion. I was also impressed with Lindsey’s quick, thorough, friendly, and encouraging responses to questions. (I feel like I made my first calligraphy friend!) The best part is that, now that you are addicted to calligraphy after finishing this course you can continue on in the Intermediate course or learn new alphabets, like the Janet style. And not only this there are online worksheet sets and freebies which are amazing and assist in keeping on with your new skill. It’s like a whole calligraphy school in one place so you can keep on practicing and keep on progressing with a teacher who has indicated to me by her continuing responses to my continuing inquiries that she is interested in the continuing development in calligraphy of her students. So I would ask anyone reading this review, what are you waiting for? Calligraphy is a wonderful, fun journey and this is the place to start!

Excellent course! Love the worksheets and the short teaching help videos. Very through from supplies, to time management, to technique, and encouragement.

I think I have officially purchased every course, supply, and worksheet available on this site. Lindsey’s teaching style is relaxed yet comprehensive and complete with tips and details necessary to fully understand pointed pen calligraphy. I had taken another beginning calligraphy course elsewhere, so I started with the intermediate course. But I quickly realized I needed to go back to basics. I got the basics kit and course and learned so much. I’m still working my way through the intermediate course, but I highly recommend both. They have helped me think more creatively about ways to use calligraphy, basic styles, and drills.

As a lefty, I found this course extremely helpful with the advice for left-handed calligraphers. I have completed the Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Course and am currently in the middle of the Intermediate and can already see such improvement in my calligraphy skills thanks to these courses. Lindsey’s style of teaching makes you feel as if you are in the same room watching her in person…and I like that you can rewatch the videos when needed. I would definitely recommend any of Lindsey’s courses to anyone wanting to start out on their calligraphy journey. Thank you Lindsey for inspiring and teaching us all to write beautifully!

I bought this course some time ago and have yet to begin it. I’m sure once I stop procrastinating I’ll enjoy the course as much as I enjoy everything from TPK.

I had taken a couple of in-person courses at a college. They were good, but didn’t compare to the beginner’s online calligraphy course. The practice sheets were wonderful (I still use them to warm up.). I always felt encouragement and confidence that I could succeed at calligraphy if I’d just keep working. Everything Lindsey says is spot-on. You won’t get better if you don’t keep practicing and doing calligraphy regularly. Her techniques are so helpful and every worksheet bundle I’ve ordered from her has increased my abilities as well as been a load of fun. She has some of the greatest ideas to keep it interesting. This course is the best place to start, but by all means, don’t stop there!

I enjoyed learning from Lindsey, I could take it at my pace and she explains things well and there is close up video of how to hold the pen and draw with it. I frequently find myself doodling using faux calligraphy when I can’t use the real thing. When I mail cards to my nieces and nephews their names are done using calligraphy which I think looks extra special. When I took the course and had difficulty Lindsey was quick to reply back and help me. I know that I will continue to use what I have learned here for the rest of my life. My husband’s grandma even had me do all the place cards for Thanksgiving because she admired it.

This course is perfect for beginners. It walks you through the basics and then challenges you to go on and make beautiful calligraphy. Lindsey’s instructions makes calligraphy doable. I find her voice to be both relaxing and approachable. The cost is very reasonable especially since you can go back at any time to review the course online. Thank you Lindsey for all the wonderful resources you create and make accessible too anyone who wants to learn calligraphy.
