“Eine kleine Nachtmusik” Calligraphy – A Relaxing YouTube Video

    January 17, 2019

    by

    Lindsey Bugbee

    Calligraphy, Video

This week’s YouTube video is all about calm and relaxation! The concept is simple: I’m writing out “Eine kleine Nachtmusik, Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major” while Mozart’s famous piece of the same name plays in the background. I hope that calligraphy leaners will take note of the slow pace!

"Eine kleine Nachtmusik" Calligraphy - A Relaxing YouTube Video | The Postman's Knock

Four months ago, Hernán and I became parents to a little boy that we named Remy. To be honest, without a certain YouTube video, we would not have gotten through the first month of his life! That video is “Vacuum Cleaner Sound and Video 3 Hours” … and it’s, well, exactly what you would imagine. Someone actually set up a camera and recorded themselves vacuuming for three entire hours. To this day, that video pulls Remy out of even the most passionate of tantrums. There’s something about it that calms him down!

"Eine kleine Nachtmusik" Calligraphy - A Relaxing YouTube Video | The Postman's Knock
Today’s video combines elegant Janet Style calligraphy with whimsical Kaitlin Style calligraphy to make for a relaxing 5 minute watch!

On that note, the other day, a mother emailed me about her young son. She revealed to me that she plays my calligraphy videos to calm him down! I cannot help but commiserate … after all, we’d be lost without our beloved “Vacuum Cleaner Sound and Video 3 Hours”. In the spirit of adding to the zen of YouTube, this week’s TPK video shows simple, calming calligraphy.

TPK’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” Calligraphy Video

I normally add some speed to my calligraphy videos, just so they move a bit faster. I didn’t do that with this one for a couple of reasons. First of all, I want you to see how long calligraphy takes to write! Learners often think that their lack of speed means lack of experience, but that’s simply not the case. Secondly, if you have a “Remy” (or you need to calm down yourself), I want this video to be relaxing. I’m not sure that it will be my own child’s favorite hit — he appears to be more interested in cleaning products than calligraphy, after all — but I hope that you will enjoy it the best way for you in your home!

I’ll be back to posting a tutorial on YouTube next week! In the meantime, enjoy “Eine kleine Nachtmusik Calligraphy” … and your weekend!

    Warmly,

I LOVE this! I listen to classical music whenever I draw, paint, or practice my calligraphy – and this is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music! Thank you for this lovely, relaxing post!

Wow, this is really surprisingly calming and motivational at the same time! As an utter and complete beginner (still awaiting my first order of TPK-recommended supplies to arrive) I often feel discouraged that everything always seems so easy and quick when everybody else are doing calligraphy. This definitely boosts my confidence – I WILL BE GOOD AT CALLIGRAPHY ONE DAY. 🙂

    Lindsey,

Thank you, thank you thank you for this YT video. It puts calligraphy (with a fountain pen) into perspective.
One needs not only to slow down, but to lift the pen off the paper every so often ( even when there is still ink flow).
Just watching you transform a white piece of paper into something so beautiful is so relaxing! Who needs calligraphy when we can watch you create magic! Keep doin you, gurl!

    Amelia.

Thank you so much for this video for a few reasons.
    1. I’ve been rushing through my calligraphy and that might be why some of my results haven’t been what I’ve expected. I thought I was taking my time. I was not.
    2. It brought back memories of my two sons when they were babies and the things they liked to listen to. My oldest loved 70s funk and 2cellos Shape of my Heart. My youngest loved Lindsay Sterling and that weird Russian techno guy that does raspberries when he sings. Kids are weird.

You’re so welcome, Jenessa! I am glad this video has reminded you to take your time. It’s such a relaxing craft and it shouldn’t be rushed. Thanks for ht wonderful story, as well. Kids are strange–I am learning that every day 😉

I understand this post! Back when I had my babies there were times when they were just unconsolable -or- or just chronic insomniacs? lol Either way I noticed that when they were in the car they’d fall right to sleep, but who can drive around constantly for naps or full sleep? So I put a pillow in the bottom of a laundry basket tucked the baby in with a soft blanket and put them on top of the washer and or dryer and did my laundry! They loved it! It was like a miracle! I had heard about the vacuum from a friend, but *I* couldn’t handle the pitch the motor on our machine made (I had to psych myself up to vacuum every day!) so I’m glad I found an alternative! By the time they were old/strong enough to pull themselves up and or out of the basket, I just placed it on the floor next to the machine and it still did the trick!

Moral of the story: Necessity IS the *mother* of invention!

Haha, my sister-in-law DOES drive around at every nap time! Now she’s in a sticky spot where if she doesn’t, there’s trouble. Your solution is genius! (Though it won’t work for my niece and nephew … they’re 3 years old and 1.5 years old — too mobile for that!) Unfortunately Remy hates the car! I totally agree about the pitch of the vacuum; we’ve moved on to “Rainforest Noises” this week and that’s MUCH better for his dad and I. Gah, I can’t wait until he can sleep through the night! I will be so happy (and shocked) once he does. He still wakes up around 2-3 times to eat!
