• *FREE* – More Calming Calligraphy Drills (Pointed Pen + Brush Pen)

Last year, TPK’s “A Week of Christmas” series featured free calligraphy drills. Today, I’m making those drills available to everyone so you can enjoy some relaxation this holiday season! This article also includes a preview of this year’s “A Week of Christmas” goodies.

Looking for reasons to embrace calligraphy drills? See this article.

A decade ago, I jumped into the world of pointed pen calligraphy without any knowledge of calligraphy drills. Now that I’m an avid pointed pen user, I realize how much I would have benefited from taking the time to write soothing, repetitive strokes from the get-go. Calligraphy drills offer a judgment-free zone for you to gain confidence using your writing instrument of choice. Once you have a good feel for how to create calligraphy, drills become useful as a way to warm up. Most importantly, they are relaxing and meditative.

The “More Calming Calligraphy Drills” Story

I designed two printable calligraphy drills sheets last year for TPK’s “A Week of Christmas” email series. The drills sheets were inspired by TPK’s popular “11 Calming Calligraphy Drills” (which has a whopping 122,000+ downloads)! I knew that the fresh drill exercises would be a nice gift to kick off the first day of the “Week of Christmas” 2021 email series.

My hope is that they’ll provide a relaxing respite from the “holidaze”. They’re also great for warming up before addressing holiday envelope calligraphy! Here are the download links:

The “A Week of Christmas” 2022 Email Series

Earlier this year, I wasn’t sure that “A Week of Christmas” 2022 could happen. But, the babysitter gods have been good to us, and I now have two lovely CU students who alternate watching my nine-month-old a few times a week. Thanks to Olivia and Hannah, “A Week of Christmas” 2022 is a thing! I’ll spoil the Day 1 surprise: a worksheet that walks you through how to write an elegant Christmas Eve quote.

Once you fill out the worksheet, you can incorporate the quote into cards, envelopes, or sketchbook pages. Or, use the flourishing techniques and new letterforms that you learned in order to write your own quotes!

This envelope features calligraphy written using Bleed Proof White ink with Arabic Gold watercolor stars.

If you sign up for the “A Week of Christmas” mailing list, you’ll receive one email per day from Dec. 19 through Dec. 25. Each email will contain a special treat, whether that’s a free printable worksheet, a free video lesson, or access to exclusive supplies. The email series comes at no cost — it’s just a fun little thing I enjoyed putting together last year, and I’m loving getting everything ready this year, too!

If you already subscribe to TPK, you generally receive three emails per week: one newsletter and two blog post emails. “A Week of Christmas” is a separate mailing list that you can sign up for. I didn’t want to suddenly start sending daily emails to regular subscribers who might not want those emails. If you do not sign up for the “A Week of Christmas” emails, you will not receive them.

I hope that you enjoy filling out the free calligraphy drills sheets, and I’d be thrilled to have you as a part of “A Week of Christmas” this year! Remember, you can download the pointed pen drills here, and the brush pen drills are here. Thanks so much for reading, and happy writing!

    Warmly,
