When I set out to learn calligraphy, I could not figure out for the life of me how artists achieved opaque metallic lettering! I tried out a few different gold and silver inks, but the metallic particles always sunk to the bottom of the jar, resulting in transparent calligraphy with a couple of glittery spots. It wasn’t ideal.

This was my experience with Speedball gold ink. Not the best results ever!

After a few months of experimentation, I discovered metallic watercolors. It was love at first write! All of a sudden, I could control the opacity of my “ink”, and the results were luxe and eye-catching.

While I do enjoy using Dr. Ph. Martin’s Iridescent Inks once in a while for metallics, I mostly stick to watercolors when I’m ready to write with a gold or silver tone! Today, I’m happy to announce that I’ve teamed up with Greenleaf & Blueberry — my favorite watercolor artisans — to offer a giveaway of the Metallic Trio!

    About the Metallic Trio

G&B’s Metallic Trio is a perfect little set of gold, silver, and pearl. All of the colors are opaque and write — or paint — beautifully on both dark and light papers! These paints come from the mountains of western Colorado, where high-quality pigments are hand-mixed with binders, poured into pans, and cured. Greenleaf & Blueberry Metallic Trio | The Postman's Knock

While I, personally, don’t own the Metallic Trio, I have all three of its colors as part of another G&B set. I use them all the time — especially the faux gold! Calligraphy and hand-lettering is elegant on its own, but throw metallics into the mix, and … just wow.

If you’re curious about how to use metallic watercolors to create calligraphy, take a look at the Creating Gold Calligraphy: How to Use the Finetec Palette tutorial! The process with the Metallic Trio is exactly the same: moisten the colors, wait a minute, then use a brush to apply them to the back of a nib. Write and enjoy!

    Giveaway

Before I tell you how to enter this giveaway, I have to say that I’m very proud to be able to offer this set to you! It’s $50 on the G&B website, but it’s almost always sold out … so very difficult to get a hold of. I hope that if you win, you’ll appreciate the set and use it often!
