Today, I’m proud to announce a giveaway for the Metallic Trio from Greenleaf & Blueberry! The trio contains a brilliant gold, an elegant silver, and a subtle pearl tone that you can use to make gorgeous metallic calligraphy.

Greenleaf & Blueberry Metallic Trio | The Postman's Knock

When I set out to learn calligraphy, I could not figure out for the life of me how artists achieved opaque metallic lettering! I tried out a few different gold and silver inks, but the metallic particles always sunk to the bottom of the jar, resulting in transparent calligraphy with a couple of glittery spots. It wasn’t ideal.

Gold Calligraphy Ink | The Postman's Knock
This was my experience with Speedball gold ink. Not the best results ever!

After a few months of experimentation, I discovered metallic watercolors. It was love at first write! All of a sudden, I could control the opacity of my “ink”, and the results were luxe and eye-catching.

(Want to keep this mail art design in your back pocket for the holiday season 2019? Check out this tutorial!)

While I do enjoy using Dr. Ph. Martin’s Iridescent Inks once in a while for metallics, I mostly stick to watercolors when I’m ready to write with a gold or silver tone! Today, I’m happy to announce that I’ve teamed up with Greenleaf & Blueberry — my favorite watercolor artisans — to offer a giveaway of the Metallic Trio!

    About the Metallic Trio

G&B’s Metallic Trio is a perfect little set of gold, silver, and pearl. All of the colors are opaque and write — or paint — beautifully on both dark and light papers! These paints come from the mountains of western Colorado, where high-quality pigments are hand-mixed with binders, poured into pans, and cured. Greenleaf & Blueberry Metallic Trio | The Postman's Knock

While I, personally, don’t own the Metallic Trio, I have all three of its colors as part of another G&B set. I use them all the time — especially the faux gold! Calligraphy and hand-lettering is elegant on its own, but throw metallics into the mix, and … just wow.

If you’re curious about how to use metallic watercolors to create calligraphy, take a look at the Creating Gold Calligraphy: How to Use the Finetec Palette tutorial! The process with the Metallic Trio is exactly the same: moisten the colors, wait a minute, then use a brush to apply them to the back of a nib. Write and enjoy!

    Giveaway

Before I tell you how to enter this giveaway, I have to say that I’m very proud to be able to offer this set to you! It’s $50 on the G&B website, but it’s almost always sold out … so very difficult to get a hold of. I hope that if you win, you’ll appreciate the set and use it often!

Greenleaf & Blueberry Metallic Trio | The Postman's Knock

This is an international giveaway that will end on Tuesday, February 26th, at noon MST (Denver timezone). You can enter it by using the Rafflecopter widget below. Please note that you do not need to be on social media to enter this giveaway! There are several entry options that do not require a social media account.

    a Rafflecopter giveaway

If you win, your name will be displayed on the widget above and you will receive an email! In that email, I’ll ask for your mailing address, and Jess at Greenleaf & Blueberry will send the palette to you from her studio in Grand Junction, CO. I’m already jealous of the package that you’ll receive — Jess always puts together the best mail presentations!

Best of luck in the giveaway, and if you have any questions about the Metallic Trio or writing with metallic watercolors/inks in general, please feel free to ask! Thanks so much for reading TPK, and I’ll be back on Thursday with another TPK YouTube treat. 🙂

    Warmly,

I’m having a lot of issues with ink flow… The watercolor palletes are a life saver on these times, I think it’s so much easier to control ink flow with them

I love watching project timelapses — like a comp I love watching project timelapses — like a complicated calligraphy or watercolor project coming together in a matter of seconds. A cleaning timelapse, then, is a no-brainer! My friend mentioned that she does these when she needs a little extra motivation to tidy up. I was totally feeling that this weekend, so I made a couple of these. The anticipation of knowing that I’d get to watch the room become neat in an instant was actually incredibly motivating. It’s the little things, right? 😉 #cleaningtimelapse #cleaning #tidyingup #neatandtidy

Some recipes aren’t just instructions — they’re memories on a page. 💛 I spent some time illustrating one of my favorites, and it turned into the sweetest (literally) keepsake. Calligraphy, watercolor, and a little patience bring the story of a dish to life.

If you’d like to try illustrating your favorite recipe, too, I shared the full process (with helpful printables) on the TPK Blog — link in bio. ✨

You’ll find helpful PDFs and step-by-step instructions so you can follow along — or use the layout to bring one of your own favorite dishes to life.

Frame it as keepsake art, or give it as a thoughtful handmade gift this holiday season. 🎁

✨ One of the most beloved assignments from Lesso ✨ One of the most beloved assignments from Lesson 5 of Hand Lettering 101 was this playful project: design an artistic alphabet where no two letters look the same.

The idea? JUST PLAY. 🎨 I used watercolor and a paintbrush, but many students grabbed markers, pens, or anything colorful on hand. The results were incredible — @adriennelovesletters gave it her own flair, Isabel C. made it three times, and Laura M. created a stunning version too. (You can peek at more inside the TPK Premium Discord!)

If you’re ready to try this project yourself, you’ll find the Hand Lettering 101 eCourse waiting in the TPK Catalog. Just head to the link in my bio to be taken to the TPK website. 💌
