Description

A toile pattern is a type of fabric that features a repeating pattern of a single color on a white background. The design is often composed of intricate and detailed illustrations that depict scenes from everyday life. In this case, the TPK original drawings include:

  • A rose-encased Arc de Triomphe
  • An “afternoon at the café” scene with an aproned waiter serving his customer coffee
  • A chic woman enjoying an afternoon of shopping
  • A little bundle featuring the French flag, a fleur de lis, and various florals

Traditionally, toile patterns originated in France in the 18th century and were used for clothing and upholstery. The word “toile” comes from the French word “toile de Jouy,” which means “cloth of Jouy,” named after the town of Jouy-en-Josas where these fabrics were first produced. I hope that this cleaning cloth gives you plenty of jouy — er, joy — when you use it. 🙂
