I love adding arrows to just about anything … decorated envelopes, planners, and notebooks all benefit from them. They’re simple to draw, yet they enhance a page so much! Effectively, I am very excited to offer you this “Eight Hand-Drawn Arrow Designs” printable, which you can find for free by clicking here. The printable includes eight mini-tutorials for different arrow concepts that you can include on any project!
About the Hand-Drawn Arrow Designs Printable
Today’s printable presents you with eight arrow design concepts to use and modify as much as you want to! Each arrow concept presents you with four steps to create that particular arrow. Follow the steps, and you’ll be able to draw the arrow!
The hand-drawn arrow designs included in the printable can be modified to fit nearly any project. For example, the Calligraphy Arrow, which includes an all-lowercase Kaitlin Style “send to”, could present any message that you want it to. I like using it to title the to-do lists in my planner!
I created this printable with the hope that you will feel inspired to draw and experiment! Even if you don’t have a lot of confidence in your artistic abilities, you will find that many of the arrows are a breeze to create.
Next time you have an envelope to decorate or you want to do some doodling, grab a pen and try out one of the arrow mini-tutorials on the printable! You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much artistic personality the arrow adds to your project.
Tips for Creating Hand-Drawn Arrow Designs
With a few exceptions, the core of every arrow is a straight line. With that in mind, it’s never a bad idea to start with a straight pencil line to help you properly draw arrows. You can see that I drew five lines of varying lengths on the envelope below.
Once you have your pencil lines, you can draw over them with a pen. I alternate between using dip pen + ink and Gelly Roll pens to draw arrows. I love using Gelly Rolls because they make bold lines without any hassle!
The two arrows shown below are Steampunk Arrows from the arrow designs printable. Notice that the two arrows don’t look exactly alike, and they aren’t identical to the exemplar in the printable. I hope that you will experiment with modifying the elements in your hand-drawn arrow designs as well!
If you plan to create several arrows side by side, try mixing up the styles! The Steampunk Arrows correspond beautifully with the Universe Arrows in the envelope below. That said, you can mix and match just about any combination of arrows on the printable!
While arrows can serve as freestanding artwork, I like them best incorporated into mail art! Arrows symbolize motion, so they provide a nod to the distance the envelope will travel. Furthermore, arrows always serve as the perfect contrast to curvy calligraphy like the Kaitlin Style address below!
Regardless of whether you consider yourself an artist or not, I hope you’ll give at least a few of the hand-drawn arrow designs a try! If you like what you make, consider sharing it on Instagram with the hashtag #thepostmansknock. It’s always really cool and rewarding for me to see the things that you are inspired to make with TPK tutorials!
Thanks very much for reading, and please enjoy the printable!
