How to Address an Envelope - Simple + Chic (YouTube Tutorial) | The Postman's Knock

When I started the TPK blog in 2012, I tried to focus on long and complicated project tutorials. I always skipped the simple stuff because I thought it would bore people! The older I get, though, the more I realize that sometimes simple projects are all we need to wind down after a long day because they don’t require a lot of energy. It’s a bonus if a project can be used in a “real world” context — like sending snail mail! With that in mind, today I’m going to show you how to address an envelope.

Free Printable Exemplars to Help You Address an Envelope

In the YouTube video above, I mention two printable exemplars. The first is the faux calligraphy exemplar, which you can find in this blog post. I highly recommend that you read the entire blog post if you’re not familiar with the faux calligraphy technique! If you already know how to create faux calligraphy, then you can skip straight to the exemplar download.

This faux calligraphy exemplar features Kaitlin Style lowercase letters!

The second exemplar the Morgan Style Lettering Exemplar. Morgan Style lettering is very simple and modern, and I usually create it with a dip pen. In the YouTube video, however, I used a regular black Gellyroll pen!

    Postage Stamps

I’m big on using postage stamps to give personality to my envelopes! If you’re curious about how to arrange postage stamps (and where to find them), you can check out the How to Create a Stunning Postage Stamp Collage post.

I buy my vintage stamps on eBay! If the stamps haven’t been used, they are still valid, regardless of their release year.

Alright! That’s today’s YouTube tutorial. Short, sweet, and practical! If you have any requests for video topics, please let me know in the comments or via email ([email protected]). I’m always looking for new ideas! Thanks very much for taking the time to read/watch, and have a fantastic weekend!

    Warmly,

I recently wrote words with a wife felt tip onto 90lb. Art paper and then carefully cut the words out. Fabby result. Lay the words atop anything for a flatlay photo! 😘

This is important. Why? My daughter came in and asked me how to address an envelope yesterday. She did not know what to put on each line. She had addressed it in a paragraph style. So I taught her.

So glad you were able to help her out! We learned how to address an envelope in 2nd or 3rd grade, I think … now I would guess they place much less importance on it! I don’t think email even existed then??

This was so helpful! I am teaching my three year old that you don’t have to just use one stamp. That you can do it like sticker art and make it look pretty. He loves to make stamp arrangements on envelopes. We have purchased Stamps from Douglas Johnson from Minnesota and I plan to teaching my son how to use watercolors properly next! He gets very excited when mommy does it. We can not wait for your upcoming blogs we look forward to every one. Thank you!!!

After eight years (and plenty of smudges), my chal After eight years (and plenty of smudges), my chalkboard finally got a makeover! This time, sketching out the design was so much easier thanks to my iPad + Procreate. Once the draft felt right, I used a grid method to bring it to life on the chalkboard. 🖊️✨ Curious how it all came together and find instructions for making your own chalkboard quote art? The iPad + the Procreate app = a total game change The iPad + the Procreate app = a total game changer for chalkboard design! ✨ Today I sketched out this chalkboard layout digitally, which is something I used to spend hours drafting with pencil and paper (with tons of erasing!). Obviously, there were a lot of elements that weren’t working here as I navigated the draft process; but it’s so easy to erase, re-size, or move elements within Procreate. The best part? Procreate gives me a sneak peek of how the chalk will actually look on the board. 😍

Now that the design is ready, I’m excited to bring it to life on the chalkboard itself. Stay tuned for Thursday’s tutorial on the TPK Blog! ✍️

I love watching project timelapses — like a comp I love watching project timelapses — like a complicated calligraphy or watercolor project coming together in a matter of seconds. A cleaning timelapse, then, is a no-brainer! My friend mentioned that she does these when she needs a little extra motivation to tidy up. I was totally feeling that this weekend, so I made a couple of these. The anticipation of knowing that I’d get to watch the room become neat in an instant was actually incredibly motivating. It’s the little things, right? 😉 #cleaningtimelapse #cleaning #tidyingup #neatandtidy
