Here’s my latest project for my godson’s Halloween-themed birthday. This was my first time using gum arabic as well as white ink. I had a lot of fun, but working with different ink viscosities and on other paper than ink jet premium proved to be a challenge!

Through my Chinese group, I found out about Heart of Dinner that looks for volunteers to make cards for their elderly recipients who combat food insecurity and isolation within NYC’s elderly Asian American community. I decided to use this opportunity to combine my love of languages, calligraphy practice, and practice my Chinese to this purpose. Here are some of my cards. I definitely learned a lot during the process. I used templates from Lindsey’s website and modified some of her design to incorporate Chinese characters. This was a fun project and it has been a while since I did something like this. Lindsey was right about not just doing worksheets but to also make things with what I learned.

Yes. The left-handed version of the calligraphy kit includes a left oblique calligraphy pen instead of a right oblique pen. Be sure to add the left-handed version of the kit to your cart.
Yes, TPK ships worldwide. Please be aware that your government may charge you a VAT (Value Added Tax) or a similar charge before they will deliver. International delivery times vary from 2-6 weeks.
Once you enroll in The Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course, you have access to its videos and material forever. There’s no expiration date.

There are two nibs included in the starter kit: a Nikko G nib (which I consider to be the best pointed pen nib for beginners; read why here) and a Brause EF66 nib (my personal favorite nib). The straight pen included in the kit will accommodate both the Brause EF66 and the Nikko G nib. The oblique pen included in the kit will only accommodate the Nikko G nib plus a smattering of other nibs not included in the kit (Leonardt Principal, Zebra G, Brause Steno). It will not accommodate the Brause EF66 nib. The shank on the EF66 nib is very small, and for that reason, oblique pen flanges for it have to be custom-made from a strip of brass. If you enjoy using the Brause EF66 in your straight pen, you can buy a Brause EF66 oblique pen when you’re ready.
Unless otherwise requested, we ship domestically for free via USPS Priority Mail. That generally puts your kit on your doorstep 2-3 business days after shipping. Under normal circumstances, we ship orders out every weekday morning. In short, your kit should arrive within a week of you ordering it, if not much sooner.
