Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

  • Video 3: Writing Copperplate Words (20:45)

  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). Once you checkout, you will receive an email with a link to the course, or you can find the course in your account.

This course is FABULOUS!!!!! I have enjoyed it so much. In between the excellent classes I have tried many projects – Sympathy cards, Halloween cards, Christmas cards and I just recently embarked on my own creation – “Healing Compass of Sustainable Health” for a course I’ll be teaching next month on that subject. It’s still in the design phase but I hope to have it ready to post on this site. Lindsey’s teaching style just makes me want to try anything and everything. So encouraging!! I’m getting ready to take the Watercolor Course next.

Absolutely loved this beginners course. It was like having my own private tutor with the added luxury of being able to go back again and again on areas I didn’t quite get the hang of. .Thank you Lindsey, you’ve given me the inspiration and confidence to have a go with my own real life projects. Would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone interested in getting to grips with calligraphy.

Lindsey’s beginning calligraphy course was wonderful! Comprehensive, easy to follow and supportive instruction make this an enjoyable experience for those interested in learning this classic art. I’ve always been intimidated by the whole idea, but when I discovered the Kit and it’s accompanying instruction, I decided the time was right to give it a go. I have not regretted it and enjoyed exploring the next level intermediate course including flourishing. I have found this calligraphy practice to be very meditative and soothing in a world that is currently on fire. Thank you, Lindsey, for your calm, clear and often entertaining instruction.

This course is fantastic! I have always had an interest in calligraphy & was excited to find this course. Lindsey is very methodical in her teaching & the course guides you through practice. There are so many resources that are available through the course to help guide you. You can go at your own pace, back up and take a lesson over, so many options! Highly recommend.

Although I already had some experience with broad edge calligraphy, I coudn’t help feeling intrigued by the elegance and gracefullness of pointed pen calligraphy. I tried figuring it out on my own first; I actually found this course when I was trying to do one of the tutorials from the blog post.
I found the description of the course and the overview very helpful for deciding if I wanted to enroll. I decided to enroll in the beginners course and that was the right decision for me. I did not buy the beginner starter kit, but I think the nib I have (f. soennecken rundschrift 6) is very beginner friendly. It works well with india ink. I did order some other nibs to try now.
I really loved the (optional) copperplate style with its elegance. I saw that the intermediate course also has a sinilar style with some flourishing in it, so I also enrolled in that one. Next to that I downloaded most (free) printable worksheets just because I love filling them in. I really love this website 🙂

When I sat down to write this review, I was thinking of all of the things I could say about this course – about how wonderfully relaxing the practice sheets are, how it helped me focus, how time flew by when I was in the zone, how happy it made me to see progress no matter how small and incremental – but I decided one word would do the trick – fantastic!!!

This course is just my speed! Lindsey explains each and every part of beginning to learn calligraphy clearly and at a pace that gives me time to think as I listen. As someone who seems to always be on the “road paved with good intentions”, I am also very grateful that I have unlimited time to go through the course and can go back to any parts that I may need to review.

By far the best decision I made when I embarked on my calligraphy journey was signing up for Lindsey’s course for beginners. She presented the essential elements of calligraphy in easy-to-grasp videos and course material with enough of a challenge to keep me wanting to learn more and more. As an instructor, Lindsey is masterful in her presentation. As a calligrapher herself, you won’t find better. If you’ve hitched to learn calligraphy, Lindsey and The Postman’s Knock is a superb place to start. I find the Beginner’s Course so intriguing that I went back for more and have taken several other of Lindsey’s courses. I can’t recommend her more highly.
