Description
These beautiful birds are fun and functional calligraphy drills that you can apply to projects! As you make each bird out of flourishes, swirls, and dots, you’ll:
- Improve your pointed pen skills
- Become more confident with calligraphy flourishing
- Be inspired to think outside of the alphabet box (remember: the pointed pen isn’t just for writing pretty words and letters)
- Learn how to make five eye-catching pointed pen birds, which you can use for future projects like greeting cards, mail art, and sketchbook pages
Here is a list of recommended supplies to fill out this worksheet set:
- Oblique pen or straight pen — whichever you prefer (I like the oblique)
- Your favorite calligraphy nib (I use the Brause EF66)
- Iron gall ink; sumi ink will work, too
- 32# HP Premium laserjet paper to print out the worksheet
Note that this worksheet set presupposes knowledge of basic calligraphy techniques. If you’re a beginner, consider taking the Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course before tackling these stunning birds!

This worksheet is another knockout from Lindsey! While I haven’t worked through the entire worksheet just yet, I had to stop and write a review because this flourishing worksheet is just so much fun! If you’re worried that it will be too hard, as always, Lindsey breaks it down, step by step and has even provided a free video lesson of the Listening Bluebird which is extremely helpful, so don’t miss that!
This flourishing worksheet is a great way to relax while practicing your pointed pen and ink skills. Whether for a project, to improve your flourishing or stroke contrast, or just to have fun, you don’t want to miss this one!
I know I will be using this for a long time to come and it has already inspired me to try flourishing projects of my own. The practice you gain from this will help build the skills and confidence that you need to branch out into other silhouettes which is a different challenge, but really rewarding!
Thanks, Lindsey! I’ve really enjoyed this worksheet so far and look forward to the next one.
