Lindsey, I love your blog and have been admiring your work for years now.
Too scared to mess up I started with faux calligraphy and just got a calligraphy fountain pen for christmas.
I saw your comment to LXY under here and would like to ask why it makes a difference to use a fountain pen instead of a dip pen?
My set is from Graf Faber Castell and comes with 3 different nibs (1.1/1.4/1.8).
Your answer would be appreciated!
Best wishes from Austria!

Hi Alexandra! You can read about the difference between dip pens and fountain pens in this article. 🙂

Hi. I’m using a Calligraphy Pen and I have 5 different pen nib sizes. Which one should I use? 0.85mm? Or 1.1mm? Or 1.35mm? Or 1.6mm? Or 2.8mm?
Lindsey Bugbee –
Hi there! It sounds like you’ve got a fountain pen. 🙂 This worksheet is great for dip pens, which is the type of pen described in this blog post.

Hi. I haven’t downloaded this yet. But I would like to ask if I can use Pelican Ink? And are there other kinds of paper I can use?
Lindsey Bugbee –
Re: the Pelican ink, sure! But many Pelican inks are made for fountain pens, so you may need to add some gum arabic to thicken the ink up. As far as different papers, 24# laserjet paper could work, or you could cut 70 lb. – 80 lb. drawing paper to a size that fits your printer, and print on that paper.

Thanks for the freebies! They are amazing. Will definitely invest in more worksheets once I get the hang of it.

I don’t have a printer or copier. It reads well here though. Any place that will may mail some of the sheets to ya? I’m going thru a notebook like in 3 days😯
Lindsey Bugbee –
Hi Melanie! You could order copies of the worksheet through FedEx. Because there is copyright text at the bottom, they may double-check that you have permission to print (and you do). 🙂

What a great resource for beginners like myself.
I find practicing and learning calligraphy drills very deeply immersive, engaging, relaxing and meditative. Your blog and information here is instrumental in furthering my understanding of this beautifully expressive art.
Best Wishes and Warmest Regards.
