I prefer to use the Brush Pen brush (under Calligraphy Brushes) at size 4%. Try writing with a color other than black so you can easily see what you're creating! And, of course, don't forget to create your work in a new layer.
This worksheet includes bonus instructions over how to create crosshatched illustrations. The illustrations were created in Procreate using the Monoline brush.
