2018 is here, and it brings with it a refreshing blank slate! You can use the free printable in this blog post to write down what you’d like to achieve this year, then display it in a prominent place. The more you see your goal sheet throughout the year, the more likely you are to…

Free Flourished Printable Goal Sheet | The Postman's Knock

I make a goal sheet around this time every single year. I find a prominent place for my goal sheet as soon as I finish it, and seeing it every day helps me to focus on meeting my goals! If you enjoy using this time of year to make goals, too, then I hope that you’ll enjoy the free flourished goal sheet offered in today’s blog post. You can scroll down for more information and a download link!

    A Little Bit of Background

I offer a goal list printable almost every year, and I like to vary the theme! This year, I drew inspiration from vintage frames. First, I used a pencil to plan out a draft.

Free Flourished Printable Goal Sheet | The Postman's Knock
I start most of my projects with a pencil draft. I’m really loving my Blackwing pencils (which are also awesome for pencil calligraphy)!

I then traced over my pencil lines with sumi ink.

The Brause EF66 nib brings a lot of great stroke contrast to this piece.

To finish up, I erased my pencil guidelines once the ink had dried. I then scanned the artwork into the computer and used the techniques outlined in the Digitizing Artwork and Calligraphy eCourse to make the piece into a PDF!

How to Use This Goal Sheet

First, print off a copy of the goal sheet, preferably on 32# laserjet paper (or 70-80 lb. drawing paper). You can find the free goal sheet download by clicking here.

You can find this printable template by clicking here. There are two templates available — an unlined version (shown) and one with lines to guide your writing.

Next, write in the year on the line next to “YEAR:” (near the top center of the frame). Optionally, you can use some watercolor to fill in the banner, which will add a touch of color to the goal sheet.

I like applying some brown watercolor to the edges of the banner to add a pop of color! If you like things to be more colorful, you can add little dots of paint to the border, too.

Now, use your writing utensil and the font style of choice to jot down your goals. If you’re stuck on coming up with goals, check out the suggestions in this blog post!

I used Janet Style calligraphy and walnut ink to write out my goals. Please feel free to use the writing style that you are most comfortable with (including your everyday handwriting)!

Once you’ve written out your goals, use scissors to cut out around the frame. Try to follow the frame’s contours as you cut.

Free Flourished Printable Goal Sheet | The Postman's Knock
Make sure you display your goal sheet in a spot that you see on a daily basis!

Once your goal sheet is finished, put it in a prominent place! You can tape it on your wall, put it on a bulletin board, or use a magnet to put it on the refrigerator. The idea is to see it several times a day to serve as a constant reminder of what you want to achieve!

What I Love About This Goal Sheet

Many of the goal sheet printables that you’ll find online are computer generated. The effect is a generic, cold feel. Well — not this goal sheet! It was completely hand-drawn, and all of the flourishes make it fun to look at.

Free Flourished Printable Goal Sheet | The Postman's Knock
This intricate goal sheet was designed to catch your attention and keep you focused on what you want to achieve!

There are four inspirational phrases peppered throughout the border of this goal sheet. You have to look close to see them because of all the flourishes! I like how they add a bit of encouragement to the piece.

Can you spot the “dream big”?

I hope that you find this goal sheet useful! This is such a wonderful time of year because it provides you with a bit of a blank slate. Take advantage of that, and think about what you can do to ensure that you’re exactly where you want to be at this time next year! With some creativity, confidence, and endurance, you can achieve every single thing on your list.

Happy 2018 … you deserve the best!

    Warmly,

I’m getting married this year, so my #1 goal is to improve my systems of self care so I can be the healthiest (physically, emotionally, professionally, etc.) that I have ever been as I venture into a new chapter with my person.
Self care means a lot to me: rest, time management, health care, goal prioritization, and of course, opportunities for creative expression.

There is nothing like a clean, well-organized wate There is nothing like a clean, well-organized watercolor chart. I used to make watercolor chart layouts using math and grids (which, trust me, was painful for someone like me, who doesn’t *love* numbers/measuring/calculations) ... then it occurred to me that I could use Photoshop to give myself a little boost. Much less math and fretting, which for me equals much more joy! Palette is from @greenleafblue — she made it so I could have a gorgeous palette for “The Calligraphy Book”, and this color chart definitely helped to boost the aesthetic of an already stunning supply. 🎨😍

If you’re curious about this technique for making a watercolor chart, you can search the TPK website for “watercolor chart” ... there’s a detailed blog post over how to use the template method that I’m showing you here!

An X-Acto knife (aka a hobby knife) is one of thos An X-Acto knife (aka a hobby knife) is one of those tools that is indispensable for a lot of applications. It was designed to make precise cuts, which, of course, it does well! But, you can also use it to scrape off unwanted ink smears (pro tip: after the fact, you can smooth disturbed paper fibers with a pebble), create interesting interior cuts, trim tiny details that scissors can’t reach, make stencils and templates, refine collage elements, and gently correct small drawing or calligraphy mistakes.

I have used X-Acto knives for many TPK Blog tutorials, but up until last week, I’d never written a guide that puts the X-Acto knife front and center. That guide now exists, and you can find it by visiting the link 🔗 in my profile. Be sure to watch the tutorial video!

Hard to fit everything in, but this was 2025 in a Hard to fit everything in, but this was 2025 in a nutshell at TPK! 🥜

This year, I loved teaching at @thehappyevercrafter’s Workshop Week and participating in @calmingcalligraphy’s World Calligraphy as Meditation Day. And seeing the TPK calligraphy kit featured in @newyorkermag’s 2025 holiday gift guide was an unexpected (and delightful) cherry on top! 🍒

So much of what happened over the past year, though, was shaped by the TPK Premium community. Their questions and feedback helped guide Hand Lettering 101, while their encouragement fueled tutorials on topics ranging from turning red wine into calligraphy ink to illustrating recipes, painting with a wedge brush, and creating greeting cards and envelope art. 💌 That same support made it possible to create new worksheets and resources that others were able to enjoy as well, which I’m very grateful for.

For a fuller recap (with helpful links and details) I shared a 2025 reflection on the TPK blog (link in bio).

✨ A little comparison today … because not all ✨ A little comparison today ... because not all golds behave the same.

✦ Finetec gold → bright, cheerful, and versatile
✦ Greenleaf & Blueberry faux brass → softer, muted, and stunning
✦ Yasutomo pale gold → velvety, subtle shimmer with a sensible amount of sparkle

I love having all three on hand and choosing based on the feel I want for a project. It’s tough to go wrong! ✨
