FREE Pointed Pen Calligraphy Drills: "Fun Foodie" Theme
Ready for some creative free pointed pen calligraphy drills? Fill out the “6 Fun Foodie Calligraphy Drills Worksheet”, available for download here.

I love coming up with unique pointed pen calligraphy drills to keep practice fresh and fun. Sticking to alphabet characters and random strokes can get boring, which is why it’s nice to create calligraphy drills that double as illustrations. Today, I’ve got a literal treat for you: a free pointed pen calligraphy drills worksheet that features six food-themed exercises. Have fun practicing your pointed pen skills with everything from avocados to escargot!

"Six Fun Foodie" Free Printable Calligraphy Drills | The Postman's Knock
These are some sketches that I considered including in today’s printable.

How to Use the “Fun Foodie” Free Pointed Pen Calligraphy Drills

Start by downloading the Six “Fun Foodie” Calligraphy Drills PDF file by clicking here. Then, print it off on a dip pen-friendly paper like 32# laserjet. Note that if you have trouble viewing or printing the file, you probably just need to download the latest version of Adobe Reader (it’s free) and use it to open the drills! Once you’ve printed the drills, get out your favorite pen and ink combination. Then, fill out the drills with me as you watch the video below:

I mentioned crosshatching in this video. If that’s something you’re interested in, be sure to check out The Beginner’s Guide to Crosshatching! The Not Your Average Calligraphy Drills: Food Edition, also mentioned in the video, can be found here.

    Why Do Calligraphy Drills?

Why bother with pointed pen calligraphy drills? I have dedicated a whole article to that very question. Basically, doing drills can benefit you in a few ways. First of all, they help calligraphy beginners to master control of the dip pen. Calligraphy drills are really just a collection of different strokes that are found in letters, so every time you do drills, your lettering also improves.

"Six Fun Foodie" Free Printable Calligraphy Drills | The Postman's Knock
If you’re a seasoned calligrapher, these drills can provide you with a fun warmup before you start on a project!

Calligraphy drills — and, in particular, artistic drills like these — also provide a way to switch up your calligraphy practice. Instead of writing “A”, “A”, “A”, all of a sudden you’re drawing a mushroom or an avocado! It’s difficult to get bored with practicing when you have creative options like these.

    More Printable Calligraphy Drills

Again, if you like this fun little calligraphy worksheet, you can find it by clicking here. If you’d like to up-level, consider taking on TPK’s Not Your Average Calligraphy Drills: Food Edition. It features sixteen pages of challenging but delightful food-themed drills like “Ice Cream” and “Teapot”.

    Teapot calligraphy drill
The “Teapot” drill from NYACD: Food Edition features common pen strokes that come together to make a splendid teatime motif.

If you want to take on other cool calligraphy drills, too, you can click the button below to explore TPK’s offerings. (Don’t skip the calligraphy medallions! They’re so pretty and a great way to practice your spacing and stroke contrast.)

I hope that you enjoy today’s free pointed pen calligraphy drills! Remember, it’s never a bad idea to enjoy them with your favorite music playing in the background and a yummy snack nearby. Thanks so much for reading TPK, and enjoy the rest of your day!

    Warmly,

Hello Lindsey, very cool pictures for coloring. It is possible to distract very well from stressful days or when there is a little free time. I think this thing will help me as much as cooking. Because I so love to cook and spending time on cooking because I become feeling myself better (I think it’s my hobby). I always try to do something new; it is excellent to diversify the meal, and it will not be only tasty but also healthy. And when I am searching, I like to look for new blogs related to cooking, because I want to come up with something new and exciting. If someone will be interested I will tell one of my favorite blogs 😉
