Description

Is this course right for you? If you have completed The Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course, the answer is an emphatic yes. If you haven’t taken the Beginner’s Course, here’s how you know you’re ready for this one:

  • You have a strong understanding of how to properly hold a calligraphy pen/form characters.
  • Exerting balanced pressure on both tines of the nib isn’t a problem for you.
  • You have a preference for and familiarity with a specific pen/nib combination (e.g. “I love using the Brause EF66 nib in an oblique pen”).

This self-paced intermediate calligraphy online course is the most comprehensive course yet to grace the TPK site! Without constraints on time or demonstration limitations, I was able to film everything I want to show you — from how to use certain inks to fun flourishing techniques. You can pause and re-watch videos as needed, and if you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions! All lessons include a short quiz, and most lessons include homework assignments.

To take the course, you’ll just need the course worksheet (print it out on 32# laserjet paper) and a dip pen, a nib, and ink. Whatever you’ve been using as a beginner is perfect!

Here’s the course layout:

Lesson 1: Different Calligraphy Inks (41 minutes)

  • This lesson includes nine different videos that cover the following inks and how you might use them: gouache, India ink, iron gall ink, metallic watercolors, sumi ink, walnut ink, white ink, watercolor (as ink), and Ziller ink.
  • Bonus material includes how to waterproof your calligraphy plus the foolproof way to combine calligraphy and watercolors.

Lesson 2: Different Pointed Pen Nibs (20 minutes)

  • This lesson includes five videos that cover six different nibs (Nikko G, Brause EF66, Brause Rose, Brause Steno, Leonardt Principal, and crowquill nibs.)

Lesson 3: Different Pens (9 minutes)

  • In this short lesson, we’ll talk about straight pens and oblique pens. I believe I can give you some insight that you don’t already know!

Lesson 4: Different Papers + Must-Have Items (10 minutes)

  • In this lesson, I’ll teach you about some different papers that you might consider writing on. We’ll cover which papers to use for what and their quirks. At the end of the lesson, we’ll cover must-have intermediate items like a light box and a rolling ruler.

Lesson 5: Bouncy Calligraphy (20 minutes)

  • Many calligraphers find bouncy calligraphy mystifying because it requires not writing in a straight line. In this lesson, I’ll help you overcome your fear of putting some movement in your strokes!

Lesson 6: Flourishing (55 minutes)

  • The flourishing section will help you make organic-looking flourishes with confidence and grace! You’ll learn how to flourish individual letters, how to flourish words, and how to make white and gold reinforcement flourishes.

Lesson 7: Guidelines and Centering (26 minutes)

  • In this lesson, I’ll teach you how to make beautifully centered, orderly calligraphy by drawing guidelines.

Lesson 8: Inventing Your Own Calligraphy Styles (6 minutes)

  • Part of being an intermediate calligrapher is inventing your own calligraphy styles. In this lesson, I’ll give you “clients” to create projects for. You’ll need to submit photos of your projects to me in the lesson quiz. (Don’t worry if you’re technologically challenged — it’s easy to upload the photos, I promise!)

The total viewing time for this course is over three hours. Depending on your schedule, I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once again, Lindsey has knocked it out of the park with her gorgeous Intermediate Calligraphy online courses! I’m slowly making my way through this course, savoring each piece and working to incorporate every aspect that I learn (calm, quiet, patience, beauty, as well as calligraphy of course!) I can into other areas of my life. Lindsey is as gifted as an instructor as she is patient and I could not recommend this (or ANY) of her tutorials or online courses more highly!

I was so excited to be able to take classes from her in person last summer, only to have all plans cancelled (pandemic). I still look forward to the chance to learn from her, in person, but honestly I feel like I get the same calligraphy skills I would from her class. The benefits are that I can revisit any lesson at any time. Pause the video if I’m struggling, or come back another day if it just isn’t my day for calligraphy. It allows for so much flexibility. That being said, I would still really love to take a class from her in person, but that would mostly be for another take on my calligraphy skills and to spend a day surrounded by Lindsey and others who are just as interested in calligraphy as I am.

If you are even remotely interested in the class, don’t hesitate! Just take the class. You will be so pleased!

I signed up for this class to help me practice and progress with my very beginner calligraphy skills. I took a brush calligraphy course a few years ago and then started to learn more about the pointed pen through books and frequently from Lindsey’s helpful website and blog. So the Intermediate Course was a great next step for me. The printed practice information and the videos are extensive! Overall, the entire course felt so very generous. Lindsey was detailed in each video with the instructions and then reinforced each lesson with a quiz focusing on the important details — really helpful. My calligraphy improved almost immediately after beginning the course – there were dozens of “aha” moments when some of my biggest beginner questions were solved during the course work. Frequently when people ask me about calligraphy, I mention what a great experience this class has been. Five stars for sure. I highly recommend it.

I love this course. Flourishing has always mystified me. That has been my favorite section. I love that I can take it at my own pace. Before taking her courses I couldn’t do anything without copying every single letter from someone else. I was stuck there for about 3 years, and after a month of taking her courses I can actually make my own layouts. Lindsey really is great at getting back to you lickety split. This course is totally worth it!

I found Lindsey at just the right time on my calligraphy journey! I purchased her beginner’s course and loved it, so I knew I had to take her Intermediate course, too. Lindsey’s teaching style is very accessible, and I love her approach to flourishing. No matter where you’re at with calligraphy, you’ll absolutely get something from following Lindsey. Highly recommend!

I love Lindsey’s classes and after finishing her Beginning Calligraphy course I knew I would love this next course. It was so helpful! Each class covers something in a timely manner. The Different Papers and Must Have Items, Flourishing and Guidelines & Centering were three classes that were very helpful for me. I keep practicing and enjoying learning from Lindsey and seeing my calligraphy improve.

The Intermediate Calligraphy is the 3rd course I have taken with Lindsey. After completing the Beginners and Janet Style I wanted to challenge myself to add to all that I have learnt. With encouragement from Lindsey I decided to take this course, knowing that I was in good hands and learning from the best. Lindsey is a great teacher. I am really enjoying this course and learning a great deal. I was keen to learn how to flourish letters and words which this course deals with extensively.
Tips on creating organic flourishes, filling empty spaces are all well illustrated.
The course is extremely well presented. Lessons are nicely laid out and paced. Love that after each lesson there is homework assignment and quiz to pass before progressing to the next lesson. I really enjoyed filling out my ink and nib collections. How cool is that!. So handy and helpful.
I am still working on the course and looking forward to the lessons ahead, especially learning to center envelopes, create a fancy menu and trying to create my own calligraphy style, which Lindsey encourages.
A big plus for me is that I can work at my own pace and I know that Lindsey is there to answer questions, offer encouragement and suggestions in a timely manner.
Tips and tricks are all readily shared to help her students along. Like all of Lindsey’s courses the price is extremely affordable. The amount of information packed in each course is just phenomenal.
If you are keen on taking your calligraphy skills to the next level I encourage you to give this a try. I know you will not be disappointed,

I have not begun this course, as I am still working on completing the beginner’s course, but I went ahead and purchased it because I want to immediately begin when I finish the beginner course. I own nearly every digital product Lindsey has produced because I love her style and she is an awesome teacher! I am so excited to learn calligraphy and Lindsey is the best instructor I have run across, and she has made learning calligraphy within my financial reach. Her worksheet/courses are worth way more than what she charges, and I appreciate the work and effort she puts into her offerings while ensuring that learning calligraphy is within financial reach of most anyone. Thanks Lindsey!

It was inspiring enough to make me produce the menu with the flourishes I have practiced. I do a lot of printing out of letters so I can use them at my table which is not close to my computer. You make everything easy to reproduce. Bless you for forwarding you free weekly info. Love it.

I love that I can access this class whenever I am ready to move on to the next phase and/or when I need a refresher. Lindsey is a great instructor, and I’m amazed at the progress I’ve made with her online tutorials!
