We may be halfway done with January of 2021, but the year is still new! With that in mind, I chose to focus on a blank slate theme for this calligraphy quote worksheet. It centers around wisdom from T.S. Eliot: “Every moment is a fresh beginning.” The calligraphy features two aspects of modern lettering that can be a little terrifying for beginners (flourishing and bouncy letters), so filling it out will give you valuable practice!
How to Use this Calligraphy Quote Worksheet
You can click here to download this worksheet for free. Then, print it out on a dip pen-friendly paper like 32# laserjet. Get out your favorite dip pen and nib combination (I used a Brause EF66 oblique pen + nib), and a smooth ink like sumi. Then, when you’ve got some extra time, fill out the worksheet either all at once or in a few different time intervals.
Filling out this worksheet will help you to practice new letterforms and calligraphy flourishes. The style is unmistakably modern: it’s bouncy, elongated, and features ample embellishment. You’ll start with three tracing exercises, then you’ll shed the training wheels to write the quote on your own.
For the past couple of years, I’ve preferred neat and orderly Janet Style calligraphy. Lately, though, I’ve been favoring styles with a little more mess! Loopy Kaitlin Style calligraphy with copious flourishes — like what I used to write this quote — has become my 2021 go-to. I like the elegant chaos that the combination of bounce lettering and flourishes presents!
Not a Fan of Bouncy Calligraphy?
Not everyone loves bouncy calligraphy. If you like your letters to be a bit more orderly, take a look at the Macbeth worksheet that I released in October. It will give you flourishing practice without an ounce of bounce! Or — better yet — fill out both today’s worksheet and the Macbeth worksheet to switch up your practice.

I hope in observing how to embellish my work that I will start my journey along mastering these techniques. I have noticed that curving and shaping lines can either make or break your projects. I have found bit by bit people that people that see my work are asking if I did it. It is so nice to be able to lay claim to it. Now I just need to work on that perfectionist part of me that constantly tells me that my work is not good.
Thank you for this freebie! It’s so lovely, I can’t wait to print it out and start practicing!
