I have to admit: I think these are much more awesome than the “Frozen” themed Valentine’s Day cards that will be circulating this year. Plus, you can totally morph the card and envelope pair into whatever you want it to be: a birthday card, a “just because” card … anything, really. I’m excited to see…
This printable Valentine’s Day card and envelope set is pretty much the “little black dress” of printable cards and envelopes. You can use the card and/or envelope for anything, and they’re both always in style. However, since Valentine’s Day is the holiday that is steadily creeping upon us, I’m pitching them as Valentine’s Day pieces.
In order to create this card and envelope set, you’ll need to print off the templates, which you can get for free here.
Both the card and envelope are black and white, ready for you to color in/paint/do nothing to as you see fit. I had considered filling them in with color for you; but then I realized there are so many color possibilities that I don’t want to limit you at all!
To create the card, cut it out of the paper you printed it on, then gather your coloring supplies. I have chosen to color it in with watercolors … mainly because we are still visiting Hernán’s parents in Peru and watercolors are all I brought with me!
With the flowers, you can paint them all one color or paint each one a different color. Please, do whatever you feel like doing! I’m a sucker for turquoise, so here I go:
And, of course, no turquoise is complete without a shocking red.
You may end up with something like the image below {or not; that’s the beauty of individual creativity}. Notice that I left the leaves white; I can’t help but love the contrast of intense color with stark whites.
At this point, you’ll want to fill in the center of your card. As you can see below, I’ve taken a cue from the watercolor lettering post and written a sans serif “LOVE” with a heart. Its simplicity complements the colorful, intricate flowers.
However, I hope you’ll feel free to fill in the center with whatever you want. I was thinking that for Valentine’s Day, one of these quotes would be cool to write in the middle, perhaps in faux calligraphy?
Once you’re finished with your card, you’ll want to move on to your envelope. The assembly process will be the exact same as the printable mail art envelope templates in the TPK catalog. It is up to you whether you want to leave the flowers black and white …
Or color them in to match the card.
Of course, you can write the address however you’d like. I, personally, used Kaitlin style calligraphy because I wanted to write quickly but elegantly.
The dimensions for the card are 5 1/2″ x 3 3/4″ {14 cm x 9.5 cm} folded, and the envelope is 5 3/4″ x 4 1/8″ {14.6 cm x 10.5 cm} assembled. Make sure you don’t select the “fit to page” option when printing, or the dimensions will be affected! Again, you can click here to download both the printable Valentine’s Day card and envelope pair.
