Free printable henna mail art templates with watercolor calligraphy

Every now and then, I like to revisit the creative journey that has unfolded on this blog. This morning, a throwback post, the Luminous Printable Mail Art Envelope Template, popped up on Pinterest and inspired me to share TPK’s top eight free printable mail art templates with you. These templates are your favorites, ranked by the number of downloads!

Before We Get Started: How to Use Printable Mail Art Templates

I designed printable mail art templates for those days when you want to send something special via snail mail, but you simply don’t have the time. To begin, print the template on the paper of your choice. (I typically print on 32# HP Laserjet or 80# drawing paper that’s been cut to fit inside my printer.) Then, cut out the template along the guidelines, and follow the steps below:

    Making an envelope
Step 1: cut out the template; step 2: fold all the tabs inward. Step 3: glue the bottom tab to the side tabs; step 4: insert contents, then glue the top flap shut.

The mail art templates highlighted in today’s article are free favorites. If you love the idea of printable mail art, TPK has some previously vaulted premium bundles available through the end of May. You can browse them here!

    Get premium mail art templates
TPK’s printable mail art bundles are typically unavailable. They’re making a week-long return to the Digital Catalog through Friday, May 31st.
BROWSE LIMITED EDITION PREMIUM MAIL ART BUNDLES

    1. Holiday Printable Mail Art

At 8,402 downloads, the Holiday Mail Art Template is the most popular on the TPK site. While I suspect you may not have a use for it now, you can “pin” it for use later this year!

Christmas Tree + Holiday Lights Printable Mail Art Templates with watercolor calligraphy and postage stamps
This mail art has a whimsical look to it as a result of not-quite-blended acrylic paint. Try pairing it with Kaitlin Style calligraphy to enhance its whimsy.

    2. Block Printed Mail Art Template

At 7,227 downloads, the Block Printed Mail Art Template — designed by artist Katharine Watson — is a gem of a mail art printable! It’s got a folksy Scandinavian look to it.

I love the look of elegant Janet Style calligraphy + Sans Serif lettering on this envelope.

    3. Typography Art Envelope Template

The Typography Art Envelope Template is a bit different from all the other printables on this list. It’s not a ready-made piece that you print, cut, and fold. Instead, it’s a piece of paper that you slip into an A7 envelope to trace! 6,039 brave souls have done it, so I know that you can, too. 🙂

You’ll need to add your own lettering to this envelope art. I recommend using a combination of Flytrap and Sans Serif fonts (from the Premium Hand-Lettering Worksheet Set).

    4. Luminous Printable Mail Art Template

If I were making a list of my personal favorite mail art templates, this one would be #1! I guess I have a thing for lamps and lightbulbs? 🙂 As it is, though, this mail art template has 5,319 downloads, making it the fourth most popular on the TPK website.

Try adding all-lowercase Kaitlin Style calligraphy + a collage of three postage stamps to give this mail art even more personality.

    5. Printable Valentine’s Day Card + Envelope Pair

At 5,165 downloads, the Printable Valentine’s Day Card + Envelope Pair has enjoyed a fair amount of success since its release several years ago. The floral theme makes it great for Valentine’s Day, but, really, it works for any occasion!

Try using your paintbrush to write a simple but impactful “LOVE” in the center of the printable card.

    6. Watercolor Henna Printable Mail Art

I love the ombré red/orange/yellow color scheme and henna motif in the Watercolor Henna Printable Mail Art ! It’s got 4,703 downloads to date.

Try pairing this mail art with watercolor calligraphy.

    7. Spider Halloween Mail Art Printables

The creepiest mail art printables on the TPK website have been downloaded 3,432 times! You don’t have to wait until Halloween to use them, though. They can add a noir flair to someone’s mailbox any time of year.

I love these envelopes with some paint/ink spatters. Something about spatters amps up the “creepy” factor.

    8. Haunted Mansion Mail Art Template

This spooky mail art depicts a spooky haunted mansion framed by leafless tree branches. Bats fly, a crow caws, and clouds move across the sky. This is the perfect mail art to send in the autumn — bookmark or “pin” it for then! At 1,704 downloads, it’s a seasonal favorite.

    Spooky Envelope
I like to use painted orange George Style lettering to write the recipient’s address.

I hope that you enjoyed this roundup! Several of these free printable mail art templates are from quite a few years ago, so my hope is that this is the first time you’re seeing them. If you have any questions about these printables or mail art in general, please feel free to ask in the comments! It’s always a pleasure to hear from you. Mail art, also known as correspondence art, is a niche yet delightful form of artistic expression that involves sending small-scale artworks through the postal system. With the rise of digital platforms, artists and creative entrepreneurs have found innovative ways to monetize their mail art creations, particularly through printables.

I gave this a try on brown craft paper. Then I used gold leave and gilded a few of the lamp shades. I really loved this design. Antique and modern at the same time!

Thank you so much for the free printables. I especially enjoy the typography envelope design. At one point in time it was something I did in Columbia State Historic park in Columbia, California. I printed headlines on an 1840 Washington press and posters (names only) using the type set

Unfortunately, all of these are repeats for me. However, I may not be your average follower. I retrieved many of these designs by digging through your archives specifically looking for something new to me. And yes, I’ve been following this blog at least 4 years, so I was here when some of them were new posts too. I saved all the downloads too so I can reprint as needed.

Sometimes, the best creative projects are the ones Sometimes, the best creative projects are the ones that don’t go exactly as planned. This tree art was made with watercolors and a straw—yes, a straw! The branches take shape as you blow paint across the page, and from there, it’s all about adding leaves and a few cheerful bluebirds. 🌿💙

This technique is relaxing, a little unpredictable, and really satisfying. I hope it gives you a gentle creative reset, especially if you’ve been deep in detail-heavy work lately. 💛

Something magical happens when you sit down with s Something magical happens when you sit down with someone who speaks your creative language ✨ That was definitely the case when my friend Jess of @greenleafblue joined me for a live chat with TPK Premium members! We talked about everything from watercolor quirks to sketchbooks as memory-keepers, creative balance, and the joy of going analog in a digital world.

Jess makes some of the most beautiful handmade watercolors you’ll ever find—but her real superpower might be how she talks about creativity with honesty and depth. I walked away from our conversation feeling grounded, inspired, and ready to make something. I think you will too.

Hernán and I haven’t been back to Lima, his birthplace (and where most of his family still lives), since early 2018. Two small kids and a pandemic later, it seemed like the right time. After returning from an 8-day stay in *stunning* Miraflores, a district in Lima, I’m feeling rejuvenated; creatively, emotionally, and physically. This tropical parrot was such a joy to create, and TPK’s newest worksheet walks you through how to make your own version step by step. Whether you’re tracing to get a feel for the movement or freehand flourishing the final piece, it’s both relaxing and skill-building — a nice balance of creative play and pointed pen precision.

You don’t need to be a pointed pen expert to try it. Just take it stroke by stroke, give yourself permission to go slow, and enjoy the process. 🖋️
