  • Nikko G nib – the most approachable calligraphy nib for most beginners
  • Brause EF66 nib – a wonderful little nib that will give you dramatic stroke contrast
  • Nib tin – to safely store your nibs
  • Pearly turquoise straight pen with universal insert that will fit most calligraphy nibs
  • Wooden oblique pen with a flange that I hand-adjust to fit the Nikko G nib like a glove
  • “Art water” cup – to store the water that you use to clean nibs throughout writing sessions
  • Tightly woven cleaning cloth to wipe off your nibs throughout and after your writing sessions
  • Yasutomo sumi ink (2 oz.) – A velvety Japanese sumi ink that’s great for any skill level

    OMG! I put the nibs on (easily, just like it was explained), dipped it in the ink provided, and started practicing the strokes in the How-To book provided. And. It. All. Worked! I did decent calligraphy! I expected a much longer learning curve and problems with ink blobs or paper tears. What a great introduction to this art.

    One of the hurdles to getting started with any new project is having the right supplies. While I usually like to find the best bargain by finding the most economical vendor, it was such a weight off my shoulders to purchase the kit without having to spend all the time researching. Everything I needed was included- tried and tested and curated by Lindsey- so I could rest easy that I had everything I needed to start right away without any hangups. The tools themselves are very nice, I have a handy box to store all my supplies, and there were many personal touches in the box- embossed labels, pretty tape, and a lovely introduction card that made the kit beautiful and welcoming to receive. I am so glad the extra money was spent to take the stress out of shopping- after all, learning calligraphy is an activity I chose to help me relax. Glad I made the purchase.
