Hi, I’m Lindsey Bugbee, and in 2012, I decided that I wanted to learn calligraphy.
I encountered a lack of resources and information that left me discouraged and frustrated. Just when I was about to give up, the concept “clicked”, and I was hooked. I want to share the secrets of how to create this satisfying art with others — and allow you to skip all the mistakes that I made along the way!
I founded The Postman’s Knock (TPK) in 2012, and I created the first TPK printable calligraphy worksheets in 2014. The worksheets included information on supplies, calligraphy techniques, how to form letters and words, and much more. My goal was — and remains — to ensure that no one else has to struggle to find quality calligraphy instruction or information. Now, with over one million downloads from 400,000 users, TPK’s worksheets are the #1 resource online to learn calligraphy.
Since 2014, I have developed five different styles of modern calligraphy.

- There’s no need to draw pencil guidelines! Kaitlin Style calligraphy features a lot of bounce, so you can self-correct words that are starting to slope up or down.

- No slant means that Amy Style calligraphy is a beginner favorite.There’s no need to invest in an oblique pen* or severely rotate your paper to achieve the right-leaning slant that are the hallmark of many calligraphy styles.
- This unique style of writing incorporates some elements of print. It’s hard not to pause to appreciate the neatness and order of this style!

- Elegant, clean calligraphy style that is a perfect fit for formal events (and projects)!
- Based on Copperplate calligraphy, this style is the closest to traditional pointed pen calligraphy that TPK has to offer.
- The Janet is a great style to try out your oblique pen on. It features a 55 degree slant that will likely require either rotating the paper or experimenting with the pen that you use. I prefer to use an oblique pen to create this style, but many people get along just fine with a straight pen!

- A mixture of straight lines and curled tails means that this calligraphy is fun to make — and aesthetically pleasing!
- Beth Style Calligraphy has only a slight slant to it. You can easily create it with a straight pen; no need for an oblique.

Each worksheet starts with a list of recommended supplies, but of course I want you to know what you need to get started before you download a worksheet! You’ll start by learning faux calligraphy (calligraphy created with a regular pen) in order to familiarize yourself with letter formations. Next, you’ll use your dip pen + ink to write the alphabet. You’ll finish up by learning how to join letters in order to write words and form sentences. (The examples shown below are from the Janet Style Calligraphy Worksheet.)
Once you master a calligraphy style, you can browse the TPK blog for hundreds of tutorials on how to use your calligraphy!
