Hi, I’m Lindsey Bugbee, and in 2012, I decided that I wanted to learn calligraphy.
I encountered a lack of resources and information that left me discouraged and frustrated. Just when I was about to give up, the concept “clicked”, and I was hooked. I want to share the secrets of how to create this satisfying art with others — and allow you to skip all the mistakes that I made along the way!
I founded The Postman’s Knock (TPK) in 2012, and I created the first TPK printable calligraphy worksheets in 2014. The worksheets included information on supplies, calligraphy techniques, how to form letters and words, and much more. My goal was — and remains — to ensure that no one else has to struggle to find quality calligraphy instruction or information. Now, with over one million downloads from 400,000 users, TPK’s worksheets are the #1 resource online to learn calligraphy.
Since 2014, I have developed five different styles of modern calligraphy.
You can learn how to create these modern calligraphy styles by working through TPK’s calligraphy worksheets. If you’ve never used a dip pen before, it will be much easier to fill these calligraphy worksheets out if you complete The Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course first! The course is recommended, but not required.
These calligraphy worksheets will teach you everything you need to know in order to create a specific calligraphy style.
Each worksheet starts with a list of recommended supplies, but of course I want you to know what you need to get started before you download a worksheet! I have complied a list of quality supplies from years of doing calligraphy + feedback from students. You can assemble this kit yourself for under $25, or purchase a curated kit here. The basics that you will need include:
You’ll start by learning faux calligraphy (calligraphy created with a regular pen) in order to familiarize yourself with letter formations. Next, you’ll use your dip pen + ink to write the alphabet. You’ll finish up by learning how to join letters in order to write words and form sentences. (The examples shown below are from the Janet Style Calligraphy Worksheet.)
Once you master a calligraphy style, you can browse the TPK blog for hundreds of tutorials on how to use your calligraphy!
With over 500+ posts published so far, the TPK blog is a gold mine of additional resources for putting your calligraphy to good use! Here are a few examples of projects created using these calligraphy styles (with instructions available on the blog):
All worksheets are digital files. You will receive immediate and unlimited access to any worksheet order!
I prefer this digital format because it allows you to learn instantly on a DIY budget, no matter where you are in the world. After you purchase a worksheet, you will receive an email with download links to acquire the digital files. You can print these digital files at home on 32# laserjet paper (you don’t need a laserjet printer to print on this paper) or at an office store such as FedEx. Learn at your own pace and use your practice as a hobby to relax and let your creativity flow!
I’m here for you!
