Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. I want to thank you for this course! I discovered it in 2020, along with The Watercolor Illustrated Map course. They opened ip a whole new world for me and gave me a focus, a project and new inspiration during such a difficult time. Many projects! Now my children and loved ones really enjoy my handmade cards! They feel special and are impressed beyond belief. Even when I know a project is not perfect, you are totally correct when you say other people will appreciate and LOVE your work!

I have wanted to explore calligraphy all my life and have dabbled with little success and lots of frustration. Lindsey’s course leaves me dreaming in calligraphy! Her videos are instructive but also casual enough that you truly do feel like she started right where you are. Lindsey was available for questions and responded quickly and thoughtfully. I await the TPK newsletters each week and have been exposed to all sorts of other vendors and artists who are inspiring and kind. This course is an absolutely steal when you consider the tremendous value this will add to your life. If you’ve ever wanted to explore calligraphy, please do yourself a favor and invest in this course. You will not regret it for a second!

Absolutely the best way to learn modern calligraphy! I am revisiting this course after a break from calligraphy and am finding it just as useful as I did the first time. Lindsay has such a lovely way about her and is a great teacher. It’s also extremely well-priced given how much content there is in the course. If you’re on the fence, buy it!

This course is simply wonderful. Lindsey is very methodical in her approach to Calligraphy and she instills confidence because she does go step by step. I highly recommend all the educational materials Lindsey has to offer!

I am so very pleased with how many possibilities opened up for me since beginning my calligraphy journey with Lindsey’s course a few years ago. I now make all my own greeting cards and holiday cards, sympathy cards and thank you cards. It’s so much fun to do – so rewarding and so appreciated by the recipients.
The course is presented in bite-size pieces, and you’re left with the feeling of WANTING to practice often, because it’s such a useful – and lovely – skill. I have considerable experience in watercolors, and, for me, I was amazed at how well that dovetails with calligraphy.
Lindsey is truly an inspiration, and her website and blog are packed with wonderful ideas that spur you on to new creative heights. I would (and DO) recommend this course to anyone!

I have practiced calligraphy in different forms off and on for many years, and taken a number of courses, both in person and online. I realize now that I never truly understood much about the different types of pens and inks and papers, and that may have been why I was never very satisfied with my results. Pointed pen calligraphy seemed too difficult for someone of my skills. When I first discovered Leslie, I figured I was beyond the basics, so I took instruction from her many videos, and took her watercolor and flourishing courses. I enjoyed them all, and learned so much, that I decided to take her beginning calligraphy course. I was amazed at how much I learned, and how quickly my skills progressed! I highly recommend this course to anyone, even if you’ve taken other courses. I have since signed up for her intermediate course, and can’t wait to continue my calligraphy journey!

Lindsey is a truly thoughtful and kind instructor. While her approach asks for the discipline and committment required to master any art form, she composes the course in a way that is perfect for a beginner. She uses comprehensive videos of approachable length, excellent handouts, in-depth discussions examining the various elements involved in creating calligraphy, and an attention to important details such as self-care while creating. This holistic paradigm is often missing in classes for creatives and she has fine-tuned that so well. I came away with a strong incentive to continue after receiving a deep foundation in where to start. I am excited to continue on this journey with Lindsey as my guide!

I enjoyed the beginner’s course very much. This was my first experience with pointed pen calligraphy. The templates provided were very useful and made learning quite easy. After this course I continued using calligraphy in other styles. Lindsey also makes available templates with various drills which are all so enjoyable. Thank you for instilling love of calligraphy.

The calligraphy box was a wonderful present to myself. I never would have tried an oblique pen without tpk’s help! The video course pitches the level just right. I have learned alot and continue to practice. A great starter kit.

If you want to get started in calligraphy and you want to be successful, start here! Practice makes progress and this course with its two alphabets and a peek at copperplate gets you going easily with lots of good opportunities for practice. I took the course over a summer and felt confident enough to make calligraphy Christmas cards by December. The alphabets are fun to learn. All beginner questions are answered and illustrated in the videos- proper posture, how to hold the pen- straight and oblique, tips for ink flow issues, and much more. I am glad I bought the kit as all the supplies are included and the attractive packaging creates enthusiasm for starting and finishing the course. What I especially appreciated is how beginner friendly the course is. Lindsey gives you just what you need for an excellent foundation without too much that would be overwhelming to someone just starting out. Calligraphy, in all its many expressions cannot possibly be mastered in a lifetime, but it can be attractively doable in a short time with good instruction in my opinion. I was also impressed with Lindsey’s quick, thorough, friendly, and encouraging responses to questions. (I feel like I made my first calligraphy friend!) The best part is that, now that you are addicted to calligraphy after finishing this course you can continue on in the Intermediate course or learn new alphabets, like the Janet style. And not only this there are online worksheet sets and freebies which are amazing and assist in keeping on with your new skill. It’s like a whole calligraphy school in one place so you can keep on practicing and keep on progressing with a teacher who has indicated to me by her continuing responses to my continuing inquiries that she is interested in the continuing development in calligraphy of her students. So I would ask anyone reading this review, what are you waiting for? Calligraphy is a wonderful, fun journey and this is the place to start!
