This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Inspired by The Postmans Knocks to learn calligraphy. I am finally taking the steps to learn.

This would help me as a newbe to calligraphy and right now I need lots of help as I am really nervous about beginning and doing it so it is artistic, and as beautiful as the pictures. I know it will take lots of practice and I will need to devote a lot of time to it. I am willing to take it on as soon as I get another project out of the way.

I love your site, I’ve learned so much. I love the downloads. I’ve wanted to learn calligraphy to distract my mind from my thoughts due to severe depression and this site has so much info to keep me doing new things and learning watercolors thank you for all you do.

The Postman’s Knock is my favorite website to visit. It is so much more than fabulous and fun calligraphy and lettering. There are even water color tutorials. Every time I visit the website I’m inspired to try something new and challenging and lots of fun. I subscribe to the blog so I get great ideas in my email. I’ve taken the calligraphy ecourse recently. After struggling for years with books and practice and being disappointed, this course has changed my life. I could never quite get it. Now, after completing the ecourse and with continued practice, I’m improving daily. I’ve used nearly every idea from the Postman’s knock to share with friends via cards, envelopes, drawings, paintings, etc. This is my favorite pastime, filled with hope, creativity, wonder, and joy.
Thank you, The Postman’s Knock,
Peggy Johnson

What a wonderful discovery! I am very new to calligraphy, but am loving it already, thanks to Lindsey! It is definitely a skill that requires a lot of practice. I think of myself as a creative person, but there was definitely a learning curve for me with dip pens! Lindsey is very skilled, and also does a great job of explaining things to beginners. She stresses that if we wanted it to be perfect, we’d print it out instead, and that you should be proud of your work each time! She’s so right – these are great things to remember. I have learned so much already, and I can’t wait to continue learning more from her!
Side note: I finished the course in about 3 weeks, devoting 1-2 hours about 3 times a week. I’m not sure if that’s too much time at once, but I was so excited, I didn’t want to stop! It did take some time for my hand to build up strength and get used to holding the pen correctly, but I feel like I’ve built up my endurance now!

I’ve been learning and practicing pointed pen calligraphy for a while. I started thanks to Lindsey and this blog and I have to say this course is so worthy!. The guide alone is worth more than the course! This course is incredible for everybody wanting to learn pointed pen calligraphy and I highly recommend it!
