Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). I loved this course! At the beginning of the year, I was looking at Lindsey’s course as something possible for me. I’ve wanted to learn calligraphy for many years and Lindsey’s course had it all. She makes it very easy for a beginner to get started with her kit, wonderful videos and written explanations for each section. Did I have a few questions along the way? Yes and I only had to email Lindsey and ask. Her prompt responses and thorough explanations kept me going. Lindsey’s a wonderful teacher and she keeps you interested to learn new and interesting ways to use calligraphy. I also like that I can order supplies from her too. I’m so glad that I took the course from Lindsey!

I purchased this course quite a while ago and I loved every moment of it. I love the fact that you can reprint and practice the concepts taught as many times as you need, and that the videos Lindsey provides you with are great references in case you struggle. I really would recommend anyone who is interested in learning calligraphy to try this course and with perseverance and practice, you definitely will notice a difference in your calligraphy towards the end of the course!

If you are a complete novice to dip pen calligraphy or if you are a beginner and need some tips and tricks to take your calligraphy to the next level, then this course is perfect for you. I was very interested in calligraphy in high school. I went out and bought a calligraphy set but my results were disastrous. I thought I wasn’t cut to do calligraphy and put my pen and paper away. Fast forward 20 years later and my passion for calligraphy has been reignited due to picking up card making. I decided to give calligraphy another chance. As luck would have it, I found Lindsey and The Postman’s Knock. I had been planning on taking Lindsey’s beginner’s workshop in person in Colorado. When plans fell through, I decided that signing up for the online course would be a great place to start. Sure, I wouldn’t have Lindsey right then and there coaching me with my writing but I could email her questions while going through the course. There are detailed instructions as well as videos to guide you on your way. The best part is that you can learn at your own pace and re-watch a video as many times as needed for more clarity. The biggest gem and learning AHA! for me is that having good supplies will make or break your calligraphy. It turns out the reason why my calligraphy “sucked” back in high school wasn’t 100% my lack of experience. It was because I was using sub-part pen, ink and paper. For the amount and level of guidance you receive from this course, the cost can easily be double or even triple what Lindsey charges. Coming from someone who struggled with calligraphy, I saw a marked difference in my lettering before and after taking the course. All you have to do is put in the time and effort of practice!

This course was great! It really goes over everything you need to know. I’ve been interested in calligraphy for a long time, but I really didn’t know anything about dip pens. So glad I took this course! The videos are clear and thorough, and Lindsey replies promptly to inquiries in the course comments.

Briefly, I’ve been interested in calligraphy since I was 14 years old in high school. During subsequent years, life happened and I let my accumulated beautiful calligraphy supplies sit. I am so pleased to be reminded that, having purchased this course last year, I continue to have instant access to this course and unlimited viewing of these nearly two hours of video lessons. I am also pleased that this course continues to include unlimited help and technical support. As things begin to slow down in my life, I am returning to pursuing things that are important me. I have quality calligraphy supplies at my disposal, including this course and I fully intend to return to this magnificent learning tool to continue to develop my calligraphy talent. My far and away favorite sections of this course include the Oblique Pen section (Lesson 4) as, so far, my favorite calligraphy font is the copperplate style. I find it an easy and beautiful script. My second favorite Section is Lesson 5, Creating a Calligraphy Medallion. I favor interesting projects that are mesmerizing to look at, yet easy to bring together after using simple step by step instructions and examples. Using this course, I was so happy with the medallion I created. After practicing the tools in this course for a little while, the project I created and am the most proud of is the Ampersand Art Lindsey created on her website and shared with us for free, including the ampersand template (several sizes, as well). Oh my gosh, this is such a fun and attention getting project. I made copies of my Ampersand Art, matted them at Michael’s myself for a song and gave them as Christmas gifts to my family and friends. I was so excited. This was the first time I had the confidence in my skill to share something I created with others. Especially for a Christmas present. Using this beginner’s course was a huge step forward in my personal growth as a developing artist. Thank you kindly, Lindsey, for all you share with us. Your talent speaks for itself and inspires me to do more to develop my creative skills. We all start in basic ways to build and grow our calligraphy skills. To the degree that we keep our hearts open, we can accomplish anything. This self-paced beginner’s course is a great tool to have access to while you wish to dabble in calligraphy and in your quest to master calligraphy as an art form. Don’t think about it too long. Just jump in and do it. Invest in yourself. You will be glad you did. There is great value here. Thank you, Lindsey, for all you have given and continue to give to aspiring calligraphy artists. Be well.

Everything on the TPK website is outstanding and the Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Course is no exception. I appreciate the “ground up” approach and the words of wisdom offered throughout. After you acquire the recommended supplies everything else you need is at your fingertips from direction to additional practice pages that are easy to print and use. Lindsey provides step by step directions that provide a good foundation to build on. I look forward to the practice time I use to develop this new skill.

I enjoyed the Beginners Calligraphy course just what I needed to figure out the basics of calligraphy. I am a mom of 3 and being quite busy, I don’t often find the time I need to practice, and I am especially grateful that I have lifetime entry into the course, knowing that when I am able to have more free time, I can view the videos again and pick it up from where I left off.

I enjoyed the beginning course. Lindsey presented well and had great tips. I really like her style. Also, when I asked a question she replied quickly. Her worksheets are very helpful. I have become a loyal follower and am hoping to take the intermediate class soon.

I’ve followed Lindsey’s tutorials, freebies, and advice for a long time, and once I received my beginner’s calligraphy kit for Christmas, I immediately signed up for the course. As with everything Lindsey has produced, the videos, and worksheets explain using dip pens to make beautiful calligraphy and helped me gain confidence to begin my own projects. I’ve started experimenting with different styles and nibs, and even ink thanks to the instruction provided by the course. I’m excited for the intermediate course as well and hope to be able to begin it soon.

Last fall, after a broken arm left me homebound, my sister recommended I work on my lettering using the Stitches and George exemplars. I really enjoyed the process, it was soothing and something I could do one-handed. Intrigued, and once my arm healed, I signed up for the Beginners Modern Calligraphy Couse. As Lindsey recommended, I took several months, mostly over the winter to complete the course. I found Lindsey likable, clear-voiced, relevant, organized, and professional. Her videos were easy to follow and the practice sheets available. I appreciate the fact that I can go back at any time and review the basics. I have signed up for her intermediate class as well and look forward to another winter project during the cold months of Maine.
