Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

Lesson 3: The Straight Pen Holder

Lesson 5 (Optional): Creating Copperplate Calligraphy

Note that this lesson includes a 10-page printable workbook that is separate from the course workbook. If you choose to complete this lesson, you will need a printer.

  • Video 2: Writing Lowercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (12:08)
  • Video 3: Writing Copperplate Words (20:45)

Lesson 6: Guidelines and Practice

  • Video 1: How to Draw Pencil Guidelines (4:24)
  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. Love this course, especially since I can rewatch anytime. Highly recommended for all ages. My daughter is way better at this so far but I’m going to keep practicing!

Lindsey is such a good teacher and this course is wonderful for beginners. She has broken everything down so that what seems scary at first, becomes quite simple. Then its all down to practice. She also have loads of fun practice drills to build your skill.

Lindsay’s Beginner Modern Calligraphy course was purchased (by my suggestion) for me as a birthday present in 2019. This course can take full credit for my love (..er obsession) with calligraphy . I have watched tons of calligraphy videos online but this one is the absolute best hands down. Lindsay makes everything from practicing the basic shapes to creating a professional looking medallion fun and easy. I didn’t think I had one artistic bone in my body but this class gave me the confidence to try all of Lindsays tutorials. I now dabble in watercolor. I have not been in a Hallmark card store in a year and a half as ,thanks to LIndsay, I make all my own greeting cards. Calligraphy is my peaceful escape and non guilty pleasure.

I did buy the course some months ago and I haven’t finished it yet, but I keep coming back to it whenever I have the time because together with the newsletter it does inspire me to sit down and try to write as beautifully as I can. Practice makes..euh..better. The instructions are really clear and are given in such a calm way so that you try your best. It is even in a way very therapeutic.

    Absolutely perfect for the beginner!
I’ve been following the TPK blog for years and purchased this course awhile back. While I have been moving through it slowly and have yet to complete it (cheers to being a grad student!), I am impressed with the information provided in this course. The videos are clear, simple to follow, and the audio is great. The worksheets are beautiful, practical, and informative and match the pace of the course well. The little quizzes at the end of each section are a fun way of testing what you learned and strengthening your calligraphy knowledge. This course layouts out everything from nib and pen preparation, getting starting, and troubleshooting. In addition to the content there is also a forum for asking questions and for $25 this course is a steal!
I highly recommend those interested in learning calligraphy check out this course. I have owned many, many calligraphy books over my lifetime and so far this has been the best practical way to jump right in to calligraphy practice.
