Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

Lesson 3: The Straight Pen Holder

  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). Once you checkout, you will receive an email with a link to the course, or you can find the course in your account.

I finished this course and I loved every minute of it. I love the detailed instructions, the worksheets, the homework, everything. It took me a while to get over my fear of the oblique pen, and even the dip pen, but now I look forward to the times I can sit down and practice. If you have ever thought about taking a calligraphy course, this is the one you should choose. I have no artistic ability, but when I look at the work I have produced I am amazed with myself. I especially love learning how to make calligraphy medallions. I send many postcards around the world and it has been so much fun creating a medallion to send to my friends around the world. In fact I would love to see Lindsey put out more instruction videos on medallions. My calligraphy has a long ways to go, but knowing I can come back to TPK anytime and get a refresher is so helpful. Not only does Lindsey offer this great beginners course but she also does courses on different styles, I just finished Amy Style and now I want to move onto one with a little more flourish.
Lindsey thank you so much, this was something I always wanted to do and your course has made it an extremely rewarding experience.

Finally, I ordered this course after following Ms. B for some months. By golly, I have dropped the ball. I purchased all needed supplies, read the instructions over and over (did I say “over). Then I realized I was hoping to learn calligraphy via osmosis, LOL. Seriously, I am excited to have this course at my disposal because learning this artform has been on my bucket list for quite some time.

2019 is around the corner and an excellent time to “get it together”.
It’s the next best thing to learning at the foot of Ms. B.

If you ever get to GA please let me know. I’d still love to be in the presence of greatness.

    Cheers,

    Lyric

I had some trepidation in taking an online calligraphy course because I am so left-handed that there isn’t a lot I can do with my right-hand. Many years ago, I was turned away from a calligraphy course when the instructor found out I was left-handed. So, I put it on the back burner. However, I happened upon Lindsey’s blog, like the tone (very friendly) and her teaching tools so decided to try it. I am glad I did. I am only a few lessons in but I find the combination of the practice sheets, videos that provide enough detail for me to alter what she is doing to my orientation, and pace are helping me get more comfortable day-by-day. Now that isn’t to say my attempts have been very good, far from it, but I see some improvement as I practice more. Thanks Remy’s Mom:)

I took your course as my very first introduction to calligraphy and loved it! The new website looks great, and I’m so happy for you that you’ve found a way to turn your passion into your career. Great job on the course, your site, and your weekly emails…all superb work. My husband and I were impressed with the visit and video you took to see how the oblique handles are made by Roger, and we are thinking about starting something similar since there appears to be a great demand. I haven’t been able to order one of his pens because he sells out so quickly!

I’m in the middle of the course so far, but I am loving it! It is easy to follow and learn from, and has taught me a lot in just a few short courses! I’m excited to see how my calligraphy has improved after I’ve completed the rest of the course.

I looked and looked at Lindsey’s website for almost a year before I was brave enough to try this course! My first attempts with a dip pen were…less than professional, shall we say! In fact, I couldnt even get the pen to write at all. It took several more weeks before I emailed Lindsey asking for her advice about what I might be doing wrong. She was fantastic!! So encouraging, so patient and just so lovely to communicate with. Here I am a year later and loving using my dip pen for calligraphy, and I have had so many compliments on my envelopes! If you’ve ever wondered if you ‘could do it’, then the answer is definitely a YES! There is so much in this website (and now the lovely new one!), that you will never get bored – there is inspiration in literally every page.
    Can’t praise Lindsey highly enough – a gem 🙂

I love this course. It is easy to follow and Lindsey speaks in a very clear and well paced cadence. She makes me believe I can become a calligrapher if I do the homework and drills. Her drill sheets may look like fun and games ( a good thing!) but they really do relate to the different styles used in calligraphy. So have a go at the drills, do your homework and challenge yourself to practice at least an hour a day. You’ll want to extend it in no time!

This course has been extremely helpful so far. I wanted to learn calligraphy because my grandmother used to do beautiful calligraphy and it’s something I fondly remember from childhood. I don’t think she even started learning calligraphy until she was close to 80, so you’re never too old! My first attempts at the dip pen calligraphy kind of looked like a 90-year old did it, it was so shaky, but even by the second day I saw great improvement. Also, something about the pen gliding over the paper is very soothing.
