Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

Lesson 3: The Straight Pen Holder

Lesson 5 (Optional): Creating Copperplate Calligraphy

Note that this lesson includes a 10-page printable workbook that is separate from the course workbook. If you choose to complete this lesson, you will need a printer.

  • Video 2: Writing Lowercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (12:08)
  • Video 3: Writing Copperplate Words (20:45)

  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). This course makes learning calligraphy accessible, which is so great when so many other hobbies require so much investment up front. I like to dabble in lots of things. It’s really nice to just give something a try.

This course is so helpful. I love the new addition of being able to see more of Lindsey’s hands in the videos. It really has helped my form so much!

Thorough course, with plenty of practice sheets. Lindsay is generous with free worksheets and I’m enjoying practicing this art!

I am in love with Calligraphy! Lindsey’s style of teaching is not only easy to understand it’s SUPER FUN! Learning has been on my bucket list for quite some time and I am so glad I took a moment during COVID to work on something so fun and positive! Thank you Lindsey!

This course helped me work out some kinks in my skill. Even though I wasn’t quite a beginner, I still learned a lot since I was never truly taught! Don’t learn from your own mistakes, learn from Lindsey’s experience and you will be happier and less discouraged. It doesn’t hurt that it is so inexpensive.

I am so happy to have bought this online course. Everything is so well explained and easy to understand. What I also like is the fact that I can do it at my own pace and go over the video that I need to see again. Since I am a visual person it is important for me to see how it is done. I wrote to Lindsey a few times and she always answers promptly. She also has many different tutorials that I will also try out. Everything she does is so artistic and beautiful.

You offer SO MANY incredible resources for FREE!! I am so glad I have invested in this. Even though I haven’t yet finished the course, it has definitely been worth the cost – more than worth it – to get started on the right foot with pointed pen. AND, I have lifetime access, so if I move at a snail’s pace I can always access it — including the recent ‘revamping’, and always with an instructor willing and eager to help. THANK YOU – calligraphy has become a valuable form of self-care for me.

This beginners course is wonderful! The videos and workbook are excellent. Lindsey’s explanations and trouble-shooting are so helpful and her approach is encouraging for beginners. I recommend this course to anyone, especially someone like me who was nervous about starting.

I often find myself coming back to TPK! I like your style and the Beginners Modern Calligraphy online Course was just what I needed, if you want to start straight away or at a later date, you can pause/start as much as you need to. So glad I purchased this online Course. My calligraphy has definitely improved.

I’m really enjoying the recently revamped course. Starting pointed pen calligraphy with the Amy style really helps since I find writing consistently on a slant rather difficult to do consistently well. Practicing the Amy style has helped me to get used to the pointed pen for calligraphy which now makes writing with a slanted style easier since the other dip pen basics are already dealt with!

I must also add that Lindsey was very helpful when I was trying to figure out if I should take this course or the Amy style course – she is very prompt in responding to emails which I know can be very difficult to do. Questions posted in the comment box in the course are also answered thoroughly and quickly! It is not the same as an in-person workshop but pretty close to it since you’ll have an instructor who will is committed to answering all your questions – something you might not even get in an in-person workshop due to time limitations.
