Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

  • Video 1: Supplies (9:57)
  • Video 2: Prepping New Nibs (8:39)
  • Video 3: Setting Up Your Workspace (2:58)

Lesson 3: The Straight Pen Holder

Lesson 5 (Optional): Creating Copperplate Calligraphy

Note that this lesson includes a 10-page printable workbook that is separate from the course workbook. If you choose to complete this lesson, you will need a printer.

  • Video 2: Writing Lowercase Copperplate Calligraphy Letters (12:08)
  • Video 3: Writing Copperplate Words (20:45)

Lesson 6: Guidelines and Practice

  • Video 2: Effective Practice Suggestions (4:29)

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Once you purchase this listing, you will be given full access to the course videos and worksheet set! Please note that you must have or create an account on TPK to take the course. If you do not have an account, you can easily create one during the checkout process (or create one now). Once you checkout, you will receive an email with a link to the course, or you can find the course in your account.

I have always had terrible handwriting but thanks to this course even my worst Calligraphy examples look pretty awesome! I am also using The Postman’s Knock Improve your Handwriting course to help but actually I think just going through the motions of these calligraphy exercises are helping my handwriting tremendously. Lindsey has practical tips that are so useful. Thank you.

I have so enjoyed taking this class and referring to it over and over again. Lindsay is an excellent teacher and the class is easy to follow, the teaching materials are great!!! I recommended this class to a couple of friends who are loving it as well.

The materials were beautifully presented and easy to follow. The videos are clear, and Lindsey makes it so easy to learn from them. I especially appreciated all the guidance on getting my oblique pen and nibs ready.

This course really helped me to develop a calligraphy foundation. I was on the fence about buying it and am so glad I did. The course addressed all sorts of problems that I didn’t realize I was having, such as writing at the wrong angle. My calligraphy is so much better thanks to this course!

I have been doing calligraphy (with Speedball nibs) for 40+ years, just for myself and family, My cursive italic style hasn’t changed much and I was ready to start on pointed pen. This course is so detailed and yet allows me to work at my own pace at home,,yay! Thanks, Lindsay for getting me started on a brand new skill!

I’m not quite done, but this has been SO MUCH fun, and is fulfilling a long time dream of learning pointed pen calligraphy. Lindsey makes it friendly and approachable, and she really does reply to questions within 24 hours!

I’m impressed enough that I’ve already purchased access to the Intermediate class.

I am loving this class! I purchased this a few weeks ago and I am surprised of how good of a resource this class is! I love TPK blog and Bugbee’s posts ❤️ Even though Calligraphy can be hard at the start I feel like Lindsey is making it a piece of cake! This reflects how professional she is ! You can’t teach someone something if you can’t understand it well! I’ve been wanting to learn Calligraphy for over 6 years now! This class is the best if you wanna know how Calligraphy works but not sure where to start! Loving TPK much 💃👏❤️ Thank you for creating this blog for me and everyone who wants to learn Calligraphy but not sure where or how to start! Seriously! This blog is a must read for any artist (not only Calligraphy geeks)!

Although I have not completed the course yet, I can honestly say I recommend it: the videos are detailed but still go along at a good pace, and the camera angles are excellent. Lindsay is a great teacher: knowlegeable, enthusiastic, and willing to pass along so many helpful bits of information.
