Description

This self-paced Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Online Course is every bit as effective as my in-person calligraphy workshops. There are no time or demonstration constraints, so I was able to include absolutely everything that you need to know! On film, I am able to communicate concepts from different shooting angles, and you can pause and re-watch videos as needed. If you don’t quite understand how to do something, there’s a “Discussion” portion under each lesson where you can ask questions. Lessons include a short quiz and homework assignments. Here’s the course layout, including video durations (minutes/seconds):

Lesson 1: Preparing to Create Pointed Pen Calligraphy

  • Video: Creating Faux Calligraphy (20:03)

Lesson 2: Pointed Pen Calligraphy Supplies

The course ends with a short video explaining your post-course homework. The total viewing time for this course is approximately 4.5 hours, but I’d recommend allocating two months to do everything that you’re asked to do in the course.

Even though I wondered how I could possibly implement the video instructions on my own (holding a calligraphy pen alone felt super awkward!), I was very pleasantly surprised by the words used to position my fingers on the pen, as well as the very close-up views of Lindsey’s fingers, in her attached video. I also found that the worksheets were very helpful, with their gradually paced practice, easily reproduced on the paper Lindsey recommended we buy. That paper is awesome for practice! I also purchased the reasonably priced light box she recommended and found it to be excellent as well for tracing over her worksheets, as well as future projects ideas she offers. All in all, I am a very encouraged learner!

FINALLY there is a resource that goes into the level of detail that you need to really start mastering a skill. Most tutorials start at step one, jump to step three, and leave you filling in question marks with unhelpful habits. Lindsey starts at step 0 and answers all the steps and even half-steps along the way! She has thought through everything from how to hold the pen to where she recommends you put your water cup. Especially if you bought the starter kit, she literally gives you everything you need to learn calligraphy, for real! This is just a phenomenal resource and so much fun!

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Very thoughtfully done, with in-depth explanations in print as well as by the videos. I can honestly say it gave me a huge boost in my calligraphy journey, and I turned a large corner in making beautiful calligraphy and lettering, in general. With Lindsey’s additional worksheets for continued practice, my words and letters are looking progressively more professional. I will be taking the Intermediate course in the very near future, too. Thank you, Lindsey!

I love your approach. I like the whole, “you can do this” attitude and your accessibility. I enjoyed the course, your responses were always prompt, and I have purchased more worksheets.

Great way to begin learning the art of calligraphy. Lindsey’s presentations are very clear and while I still need TONS of practice, it’s become a very enjoyable way to pass the time.

This is an awesome course if you want to learn the proper way to do Calligraphy. I loved the way Lindsay covered everything, including information on how to hold the pen, different kinds of nibs and the fun lessons. It has been a great help to me! I still go back to it for the practice pages especially!

I love this online calligraphy course! If you’re interested in giving dip pen calligraphy a serious try, then Lindsey’s ‘Beginner’s Course’ is a great place to start. Lindsey teaches extremely well, and the videos are excellent too. The printable workshop packet with practice sheets make all this new information available to you as you work along with Lindsey. And I personally like just watching Lindsey fill out the worksheets herself. I like seeing exactly how she moves so I can correct my errors! I’ve watched these videos many times….. 😆

Everything you need to know to get off to a good start with dip pen calligraphy is in the course.

Somehow I stumbled upon Lindsey on Instagram in the past 12 months and I have learned so much from her online courses and blog. I had only started brush pen calligraphy a few months before I was gifted a dip pen set. Thankfully I found Lindsey and her beginner course that set me on an incredibly happy journey with dip pen. Her teaching style is very tangible and includes just the perfect amount of detail, and her beginner course gave me the confidence to overcome the feeling of being overwhelmed by all the different variables involved in dip pen calligraphy. Currently I am enrolled in her intermediate course and I highly recommend it as a next step for anyone looking to take their calligraphy to a higher level.

This course is well worth the money. It is an excellent introduction to the materials that surround calligraphy and it will help you develop the confidence and skills that you will need to start creating your own projects. Be warned though, that once you start, it might be so addictive that you will power through it in a week or two.
